I think the only really wildlife thing I've tried aside from Fish & Deer was alligator. I wouldn't try python sausage or bull testicles though. The thought honestly grosses me out. The alligator did taste like very good though.

    RobNJ,
How was the shark fin? I have caught shark but never did anything with the fin. How is it prepared?

I was also courious about the jellyfish. How was that prepared? Seems like it would just turn to goo.

Growing up my step-father was a very avid hunter. I have had steer tongue, pheasant, wild turkey, bear, deer, and duck. All of these taste very good if prepared properly.

I've tried jellyfish. Not a fan. The texture was too much for me. It was like stringy/noodley jello??? I'm not sure how to describe it.

I like Shark fin soup however. I understand the process of obtaining said fin, but I'm still not going to deny that it is tasty.

Durian IS AWESOME!!! Its so underrated and hated due to the smell. But it tastes really good. Love it. Grew up on it and I just bought one for my boyfriend to try. Try it semi frozen and its like ice cream. Mmmmmm
Glad to know someone else who doesn't think its horrible.

I totally forgot the above foods are considered exotic. They're such regular foods in my life.

What does Kangaroo taste like? I remember meeting someone at the airport who had kangaroo jerky and got stopped at customs. It sure sounded good though.

I've had durian. It smells terrible but tasted like sweet onions to me. Not my favorite, but not terrible either. I'd imagine if you could cook with it and somehow mask the smell then people wouldn't be so against it.

EDIT: is shark fin soup "bad" to eat because they kill the sharks just for the fins?...?

From my understanding, yes. Some sharks aren't even killed. Some are caught, their fins cut off, then dumped back into the water still alive.

I want to try shark, guinea pigs, rattlesnake, any snake for that matter. I would want to find an Asian culture that actually did eat dog, that way I could know it happens. I think orange dog might be tasty.

I also hear buffalo is fantastic. I need try some, I think there's a place down south of me actually...

Oh! I have had fried frog legs, delicious.

Buffalo is very good and healthier because it's lean. If I ever hit the lotto i'd buy a crap ton of land and raise them. I feel like there's a huge market for it with how the "healthy/organic" phase is hitting the US.

I'm not sure if they still do it due to modern animal activism, but Korea and China were big on dog farming. I know Vietnamese for sure eat dog regularly. They have specialized dog restaurants.

Awesome. Maybe some dog sushi would be weird.

Sushi is specifically raw fish? So that's definitely not sushi, just raw, red meat.... lol

I don't have the stomach to experiment with new food items, i am 99.9999999% sure i would throw up. I will happily stick with ham and chicken.

Although i do remember trying Alligator once, it smelled kind of fishy and the texture was very rubbery. Ick.

Bologna is disgusting. I would try bull testies before I would voluntarily eat bologna.

You are absolutely correct. A majority of sharks that are targeted for the means of shark fin soup are caught live, their fins are harvested immediately and the live shark is discarded back into the water to die. Long lining, another controversial fishing method catches and inevitably drowns sharks. Once brought aboard a similar process takes place where the fins are harvested and the remainder of the shark is tossed over board.

Shark-Fin soup has been banned in many cities world-wide due to the hardship brought on the animals and the increase in over-fishing.

    ... ;)

Sushi is a Japanese Dish that consists of vinegared rice that typically combines raw fish or other types of seafood, but is not limited to only seafood.

Sashimi would be a reference to raw meat; usually, but again not limited to only seafood.

Sadly no. Many Asian countries will catch the shark, cut off its fin, and then release it. It then dies.

I would have no problem if they use the while shark but their method is just a waste.I have caught many sharks and got some nice meat from them.

I'd try making shark fin soup IF I caught the shark myself and kept the whole thing. Shark is very good meat, and the skin is awesome for projects.

Unfortunately, there's way more demand for the fins than for the rest of the shark. The expense in icing them down and hauling them to market in time before they spoil is more than they would get for the catch. Fins are dried and so they have little expense once the fin is on the boat. It's a horrendously wasteful practice.

I don't understand people who object to eating deer as the "THey're wild animals!!" I mean, sometimes it's the exact same people who INSIST that one "free range, organic, antibiotic-free, no-hormone" meat is okay to eat... but deer(who meet all those requirements and then some) are NOT okay? Seems bizarre to me.

I honestly don't know why people object from eating once species, but not the other. I'm willing to try any kind of meat, except for endangered animals. I would try the meat after their numbers go up, but other than that I don't mind eating any kind of meat.

I like sharks so I won't eat shark fin. I'd totally eat a shark if I knew the whole thing was used.

Ham is so gross, I hate pork except bacon and occasionally ribs.
