I ordered one and am crossing my fingers. I expect a huge shipping delay if they ship them all but I am hopeful it goes through.

Well...I ordered 2....Might actually end up using them if this all goes thorough....

There is no way this is not a mistake. Hagen (Exo Terra) has just put out minimum pricing guides that take effect next week stating that this cage must be sold for $259.99 or higher. All the other cages are priced at the new minimum pricing, with the exception of this cage which appears to be missing a "9". I know for a fact that no supplier gets more then 50% off Hagen's list price, which means that Petco paid over 5 times more then they are selling it for. Petco is charging $6.99 for shipping 3 of these cages, when it will cost them at least $50 to ship. Going by the craze of posts on forums (not even reptile forums), I'd say Petco has sold more of these cages tonight then Hagen has sold in the past 5 years. I know a few people who ordered over 100 caged each for their warehouses. There simply won't be enough cages to go around even if Petco tries to fulfill the orders.

It will be nice if they honor this but I don't see how they physically or financially can.

And for lols, read the comments of people ordering the cage who never had reptiles before.

I'm sure they meant to put 259.99 instead of 25.99. OH the damage one misplaced decimal can do, and all the people it can make happy! :D

Definitely hope the order doesn't get canceled. I will be one sad panda.

ETA: If you have problems ordering it on Chrome, try Internet Explorer. For some reason, Chrome was completely on Petco's side and didn't want me to order it (LOL), but when I got on IE (literally the first time I opened it, aside to download Chrome), it worked just fine.

Nice job Petco. Now all those fools who have no need for them but are buying them anyway just because they're so cheap will have to get "a turtle or something to throw in it". Now in the next few months thousands of turtles and geckos will either die or get tossed into the back yard when the new owners get tired of messing with them.

I almost have a feeling that even if they DON'T cancel the orders, they'll let them all go out for several reasons.
Yeah, they'll lose a ton of money on those cages BUT....

Tons of people who would have NEVER gotten reptiles before will be going to -where?- PETCO to get reptiles.
These clueless people will be asking Petco associates what is good for the reptiles they're buying. More than likely, the Petco associates will just tell them what they've been told to say and suggest stuff they have in the store. You know what sales associates (in every retail store) are told to do? UP-SELL, UP-SELL, UP-SELL!
That ups live reptile (and probably feeder) sales AND merchandise sales in general.

I think even with this potentially HUGE loss (if they honor it!) it could turn around to make them an even bigger profit.... So who knows? I'll keep my fingers crossed. :)

Holy moly. I can't imagine buying something I know I won't use just because its cheap! Seems like most of those people had no intentions of actually using the tank, just reselling it or putting it in the garage with more junk. Boo I was hoping it went through to use it as a nice QT/display tank.

I so get 2 if we had the funds I know of 2 projects I could so love to setup in them.

I used to work for Petco, and somehow, someway, i think Petco is just going to weasel out of this one. I doubt few, if any are actually going to be shipped for that price. Surely someone at their shipping warehouse noticed, before they fixed the ad.

The add is still up and still on sale for 25.99 you would think if it was a mistake they would have fixed it by now.

The page says 25.99 but then go to the cart and now that shows 259.99. I tried ordering on last night but kept getting a error so I gave up.

I just ordered 2 for the heck of it not 20 minutes ago and total with shipping was 61 and some change.

Has anyone got a cancel notice yet?

I believe PETCO has their HQ on the west coast, so maybe that is why some folks could get some orders in early this morning - before they caught on. I'd love to be in the room of the guy or gal in charge of their online sales and see the look on their face when they see how many of these they sold at this price. UH-OH!

I ordered 1 this am and got an email confirmation from both Pay Pal for $34.94 and Petco for $34.94 at 8am this am. So far no cancellation notice. Will prob get a "We are sorry but we are out of stock and will not be able to fill your order" notice sometime.

I ordered mine last night around 7 pm eastern time on my cc and got a confirmation. No other emails yet but I really don't expect it to make it to my house at that price. Was hoping it would slip under the radar and out of their warehouse but it says items don't typically leave for 5-7 days. Plenty of time for them to stop it. Was worth a shot though.

That's what I figured. Ordered two, see what happens. If they ship, fine, if not and my card doesn't get hit, no problem.

Even ignoring the people who ordered three or more of these, its likely thousands of people tried to order one or two of them. Getting to the front page of slick deals killed the chance of this getting through just as much as people ordering hundreds of them. My educated guess is that before the price was taken down, Petco sold over 2-3 times as many of these cages overnight then Hagen has ever sold since they made the cage (its just not a popular size).

Assuming the impossible happens and Petco honors the deal and hagen has a full giant warehouse dedicated to just storing large tall enclosures, it would be interesting to see how it would effect the reptile economy. This would be the single largest event that puts an increase in demand for animals and decreases the demand for enclosures. Cages would be on CL for $100, then $70, then $40 as people trying to flip these giant bulky cages find that every person who could possibly want one has more then they need. Sales of all mid to large size reptile enclosures at regular retail price would grind to a halt and it would be years before the prices on cages stabilize.

And to those expecting to be angry when their cages don't show up, try to look at it in perspective. We all knew this was an obvious error when we placed hopeful orders. Would you be upset if at the supermarket the checker missed the three cases of soda on the bottom of the shopping cart, but the person checking receipts at the door noticed? People make errors, and with online sales, its easy and devastating to do.

i got through. basically all they will say is the management is in a meeting discussing remedys for the solution.

try the online chat. i have had alot more luck there.
