There's nothing I can say to fix your loss, but my thoughts are with you and your animals, Wes.
-
This is horrible. I am very sorry for your loss.
I have come home from a weekend away to a "disaster" but nothing as devastating as the loss of your animals.
I hope it all works out.

Re: Lost almost everything
OMG, I'm truly sorry. What a horrible thing to come home too. One of my biggest fears is coming home and finding something terrible has happened to any of my animals. :(
-
That's horrible.. I'm glad it wasn't worse, like a t-stat fail. At least you still have the building and racks and there wasn't a fire or something! But I can't even begin to understand what you must be going through right now. I bet your snake room will be one of the safest ones in the country after this bad experience..
-
I'm so sorry to hear about this. I'm praying for your surviving ones and the eggs.

Re: Lost almost everything
I haven't been here that long, but from day one everyone here has been more than accommodating. There were others in my life long ago that also took their own valuable time to teach me about these wonderful animals so I have felt the need to always give back in some way. SansCera's gift made me think and have started a grass-roots campaign to help Wes get back on his feet. I have sent a ton of emails and am waiting on responses from most, but I did get a commitment from Brian at BHB Reptiles to donate an animal to Wes to help him heal. Brian has been a huge help to me with my own collection and he has a humble character that isn't found much any more. Even after all these years of success, Brian's only concern is the well-being of these amazing animals. Please look him up next time you're considering a purchase...
What happened here wasn't just losing one or two snakes, what happened here was an unforeseeable tragedy. We are a community. Communities come together and help one another out when tragedy hits. With breeding season upon us, incubators full and eggs hatching, if you are willing to help Wes out, please PM me and I can arrange shipping. Wes's original post lists what he has lost.
Many thanks in advance to those who decide to donate and to all those who came before me who have given so unselfishly to this community.

I'm so sorry, Wes. What an awful thing to go through! My heart breaks for you and for your poor animals.
I'm not a breeder myself, so I don't have a lot of options, but I do have an adult 100% het lavender albino male (from Justin Kobylka) that I could send you, if you're interested in working with that gene. Let me know.
I wish there were words that could make this journey easier for you. :tears:

Thank you so much Chris (SansCera), Shawn (Willie76) , Brian, and everyone else for their support! This is definitely one of the hardest things I have been through in a long time, but the support of you all here in this great community have made it easier to deal with. I will never forget this, and when I am able, I will pay it back 10 fold. I have never been part of a group where you have never even met the people in person but they feel like family. There is so much more I want to say but i just can't find the words... I love you all! Thank you all from the bottom of my heart.

I've had the same thing happen, with my AC going out and coming home to 130F temps and finding dead animals. I was lucky in that it was "just" the snake room and I only lost half a dozen animals.
Sadly I'll have to mention, if any of the surviving females breeds/was bred, you may not get viable eggs, since some of my females that survived had eggs but the babies all died in egg.
But the good news is most of mine that showed the neuro symptoms did recover and act fine after some time, so I'm hoping that anything you have left will also be okay given a bit of time.
If I can help, please let me know. Over several issues I've had, I have little to offer in the way of snakes, unfortunately. But support otherwise I can do.

Sadly, every breed-able female I had died. The only one that was alive when I got home was the Mystic girl and she passed the next night. I watched her go, and that was probably one of the most heart wrenching things I have ever seen...
3 of the babies are still doing some corkscrewing and showing other odd behavior but seem to be getting a little better... I'm praying they pull through, but they haven't even had their first meal yet since I was waiting on one of my rat girls to give birth, and now I have no live rats...... ugh. Will hopefully be going to get some new breeder rats and a few live pinkies tomorrow afternoon.
Thank you for your support.

I am so sorry for you dear. It must be devastating to have to deal with this. In a small way I feel your pain. My long awaited fire clutch last year was affected by a temp spike in my incubator. I had a number of babies born deformed, and eventually had to euthanize two of them. Then my pied clutch had the same thing happen, only they were already hatched. All 5 suffered heat related damage, thankfully it was only permanent in one of them.
My heart goes out to you, much like you, it was an accident. But like you, it was my fault. If I wasn't so lazy and cheap, I'd have had a decent thermostat on my incubator and it never would have happened. But we live and we learn. You can bet my new incubator won't do the same thing. Just like I can bet your AC won't do this again.
Although you have already had a number of offers to replace your lost animals, I have a really nice male vanilla hatchling sitting at about 350 grams if you are interested. It's not a lot, but I would like very much for you to have him if you have a use for him.

I am so sorry for your loss. I also know the pain of this type of tragedy. :tears:

Words are never enough in these situations, and this community clearly knows how to go the extra mile. The generosity shown here literally brought me to tears. I'm glad you have these amazing people behind you and I'm terribly sorry for your loss.

Re: Lost almost everything

I'm sorry to hear about this: I, too, can't express how awful you must feel. :( I hope your babies will pull through.

Re: Lost almost everything
I'm so sorry, man. This is my worst fear with a large collection of snakes, the worst thing that could happen. I can somewhat relate, a similar sort of thing happened to us with our rat shed last summer, the surge malfunctioned and the AC shut off. We lost all of our rats, some we considered pets and were very attached to.
Don't blame yourself at all, there's no way you could have foreseen it and you would have prevented it if you had.

Aww geez Wes!!
Losing all the girls is really terrible. I'm really sorry. I hope the little ones turn around for you.
-
You know Wes, I've been thinking a lot about you today. And I have made a decision. Offers of hatchlings are terrific, but loosing breeding size snakes is a different story, and females take years to grow big enough to replace the ones you lost.
So, I have made up my mind. I am offering you my 1000 gram pastel female if you want her. She's not the most spectacular snake out there, but she is pretty sweet. Lots of blushing. She's a little small to breed right now, but it wouldn't take her long to make weight. She eats like an elephant, and I'm not exaggerating. So think about it, and if you's like I can take you some photos of her. I'm sure I can come up with the shipping finds if I try, and she would be the first step back on the road to breeding for you.

Lost almost everything
I wish I could offer help in snakes, but I live in Canada, and it's over $800 to ship to the states :(
Gale, that's awesome and really sweet of you!

Gale, that is so kind of you. You are a really caring person. Thank you for being you.
I would totally donate and help, if I had any. But this will be my first year breeding. :(

Re: Lost almost everything
And THIS my friends, is a community!

Re: Lost almost everything
I also tried contacting Ship Your Reptiles to help get a few animals shipped, but haven't heard back...
SO if anyone is willing to donate a couple bucks ($5, $10, etc) to get Wes's animals shipped to him, please PM me and I'll give you my PayPal address. I'll start with the first $50 donation...

Re: Lost almost everything
I am VERY sorry for your lost. I've been through something similar, but I know you will pull through. Let's be grateful for the ones you still have.
-
Posted this in a large facebook group I am a part of. Hopefully can get some more people on board to help you recover from your terrible losses. I don't have any animals to offer, but maybe I can round up some cash to donate for the shipping.
-
I am really glad to see our community pull together like this to help you get your collection back on it's feet. I would have loved to send you one of my little females but alas, Canada to USA wouldn't be worth it :(

Lost almost everything
Its nice to see so many people coming together to help him out. This is why i get a good laugh whenever one of those "why is everyone so mean to each other?! Can't we all hold hands and talk about rainbows and butterflies and unicorns?!" pops up from time to time. There's a very strong sense of community here, even if not everyone can see it.
I'd like to see a thread of your new babies once you get them wes. (I'm not asking you to brag or anything, i just like looking at pics lol). :)

You know I'm gonna share all of them. As much as it sucks loosing the others, I still want everyone to see all the new babies.
I decided to take some money I had saved up for some other projects and put it toward rebuilding my BP breeding group. I think you guys are gonna like what I picked up. :)

How are the rest of your snakes doing, Wes?

The rest seem ok, other than 3 of the babies. 3 babies are still moving kinda odd and not reacting to my movements like I feel like they should (hope that made sense) but they do seem to be getting better. The only baby that has had a meal so far is the normal hatchling. Hoping I can get all of them to eat...

I'm so glad they're getting better. I hope they continue to improve.
-
It sucks when something like this happens. I hope that it wont happen again :)
-
Just wanted to give an update on the 3 babies that were having issues. All 3 seem to be doing a lot better. They were tracking my hand last night when I would move it in front of them, and they weren't flipping over any more when they would try and crawl. I also got the normal one to take a f/t meal. :D So glad they all seem like they are going to pull through! Now I just need my new breeder rats to start popping out some babies so I can get them all eating consistently.
