This poor girl was sent to me while egg bound. :/ The nerve of some people.
Has calmed down a lot over the past year.

Re: Favorite Kingsnake Species?
That sucks. At least she is in good hands now. :)
The design on her head is cool. Looks kinda like a peace symbol.

Favorite Kingsnake Species?
They said they didn't know, they thought she was done laying. So she came with a vet bill.
That's when they said they would give me a "hypo" for free and sent her.
Oh well. They are both great snakes and I'm glad they are not in their care anymore.

Okay, as promised. Here are a few pictures of my Florida Kingsnakes, Lampropeltis getula brooksi
A couple of hypos and a couple of normals. Supposedly they may also have some peanut butter in them? I'm not sure what that means but I assume it's not a creamy filling.

I have seen a Brooksi that was very dark colored with two thin pinstripes going down the back, (in fact I think it was called a pinstripe Brooksi, but my memory may be faulty on that) But I don't remember the color of the stripes and I don't think I saw the belly.

I love this thread! Does any body know if king snakes are good for beginners? Thinking of getting one.
Thanks.:snake:

Re: Favorite Kingsnake Species?
You know the locality of that blotched king up there you have. I just got one Saturday at the expo from bhb reptiles. It's a girl not to old very young just ate a pinkie today when I brought her home. Anyway what's the exact care for this type? I've looked everywhere and haven't found one like her till I seen your post and all, she's at 78.6F and 34% humidity she's my first king so I looked up basic king care and try to keep humidity at that level. So can you give me a care sheet on these types heres a pic of her thanks if you can help me! :3http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/03/18/adu5anut.jpg

Re: Favorite Kingsnake Species?
Battleborn, my guess is your snake is a cali king. Which morph I do not know, perhaps a banana of some sort. Someone with more knowledge of morphs would know better.
The temperature you list, is that cool side or warm side? Warm side should be up around 88 degree mark.
Gratz on the new little one. :)
Here is a care sheet for these guys: http://ball-pythons.net/forums/showt...californiae%29

Re: Favorite Kingsnake Species?
Lol blood but it ok. Um again not sure, if it's a cali. are blotched kings the same as them? Ya that is the front/cool side the back is her hot. At 86.7 right now she looks so much like the one skulls has but just smaller that's why I asked if he know what species our that his was.

Re: Favorite Kingsnake Species?
ermm. Sorry about that. Eyes are playing tricks or something.
There's a high probability of it being a cali king morph. After that maybe a brooksi morph. IMO.

Re: Favorite Kingsnake Species?
I just looked up some banana kings not a whole lot matching her only one or two (quickly browsing lol) I'll get a better pic of her hold on

I have to go local on this one and say scarlet kings(L. elapsoides) for their amazing colors followed closely by good old florida kings(L. g. floridana) because stumbling upon a large individual is a rare treat and unforgettable.

Re: Favorite Kingsnake Species?
My favorite is Speckled (Holbrooki). I've always wanted one, but they're not that commonly captive-bred. I'm sort of partial to chain kings of any kind. I've had a few Easterns and a Florida Peninsula Intergrade that were catch and release.
I picked up this Speckled beauty today at Repticon Atlanta ...

Mexican black kingsnake or brooks kingsnake for sure... I would love to own both someday
-
Either cal kings or Mexican black kings. Love the black and white on the cal kings and love the solid black on the MBKs.
-
Re: Favorite Kingsnake Species?
Cal kings all the way for me. Love their personality and coloring
-
My top three in order: Brooksi, Speckled, Standard Black and White.

I just picked up my third mexican black kingsnake couple days ago.
Do they normally have yellow specks when they are young? I took in my other two when they were about a year old so I don't know.

Thanks John! Did a search on youtube for it and couldn't find any with yellow specks.

Mexican black kings will naturally integrade with the AZ desert kings so you often have individuals with yellow speckling. They will darken up somewhat, but the blackest babies will also make the blackest adults.
-
I love the speckled kings. We have them here but ive seen only one in the wild in the last 20 years.
I also love the greybanded kings, never seen one ever except online, even at the expos here.
I also love the mexican black kings and the cal.kings.

I really like high red goins king snakes

I love the Cal Kings, but I practically drool everytime I see a MBK. Black is sexy. [emoji14] so pretty! I love the face of my Cal king, reminds me of a wasp.

Re: Favorite Kingsnake Species?
I've always been partial to Eastern kings only because I used to see and catch them when I was a youngster. I have also always loved the pyromelana kings too. When I was a kid I used to look at photos of these pyros and dream of some day having enough money to buy one!

Re: Favorite Kingsnake Species?

Re: Favorite Kingsnake Species?
The Arizona mountain kings are my favorites. Very sharp reds, blacks, and white coloration. With hypos being even more stunning. Bhb has a hypo Arizona mtn. King on his site right now for 500.00. They are also the most docile of the king snakes. Once at the white plains expo I saw a individual that was about 4.5 ft. long and thick as a pipe.:gj:

Re: Favorite Kingsnake Species?
Now I have had plenty of snakes from ball pythons to hognose , corn and rat snakes and I have to say no snake amazes me then my (high white cal king snake) I say this because my king snake is the most aggressive snake I have come across it is if he is possessed by a Demon lol he is lighting fast doesn't like to be held at all he will musk and and rattle his tail to let u know to back off then comes the strike mode lol I'm in the process of taming him trying to calm him down its a long process I handle him once every 2 weeks for 20 mins my friends and family get so scared when I pull him out cuz my snake is a force not to reckoned with .. now I have had other king snake that were docile but this one is my fave.

Definite favorite is Tarahumara Mountain King Snakes (Lampropeltis pyromelana knoblochi). They have wonderful temperament, are about the size of a corn snake.....and unmatched on pattern and color IMO. Here is one of mine:

I've heard that Cali's can be nippy rather randomly.... I don't know enough about the Mountain Kings, I have heard that they are usually rather colorful though.
I have been seeing a trend rising with Lemon and Banana Kings becoming more popular..... I wasn't positive, but I am led to believe they are Cali kings with color morphs?
The last Lemon King I saw was rather cute ^_^
