I have been working on my short fuze. My main problem is people that don't have any common sense I have ZERO tolerance for them. Also people who don't know how to drive can really send me over the edge! But other than that I think I have a pretty good handle on it.

Sorry to bring up an old thread but today my temper got the best of me. It wasn't really my fault but the kid pushed me then another was running his mouth. good thing was I didn't get suspended but sergeant major did have us talk it out & shake hands.

As soon as someone lays a finger on you its self defense and you can go to town on them. I dont condone violence or fighting but i do condone standing up for yourself and protecting yourself.

I had a fairly short fuse until around 25 then I started to grow up. That and the fact I physically started growing as well, I'm not the smallest guy and could be one punch away from along time in jail......soooooo I try not to put myself in situations where that could be an issue.

I asked my brother to describe my temper. He described it as "still waters run deep." Everything looks fine on the surface. But once I really lose my temper, you'll get get sucked down in a current of blinding rage.

My friends think I'm a pushover. But nobody really knows you like your family does :-D

What Rob is modestly saying is he's about the size of king kong so people generally dont fly their planes towards him or he rips their arms off and beats them with them.

I've been described as having the patience of a saint, but that's only because I'm good at keeping my cool. I've learned it from my dad growing up. We butted heads ALL THE TIME, and when I would become angry and shout or get verbally out of line, it spelled trouble for me. But when I approached the subject calmly, I got a much more favorable response from him, and from everyone else that I tried it with. From my experience, it never works out if you end up angry or short-tempered, because people tend to respond in kind. When you project a calm, quiet (but firm) and authoritative demeanor, people tend to eventually calm down as well, and actually start listening to you. I put this to the test every day working retail, since most people treat retail workers like we're all idiots who barely graduated high school. Plus being cheerful always helps! Many a time I've left people scratching their heads when they get short with me about something, and I respond with a "well sir/ma'am, let me see what I can do just for YOU today!" They can never tell if I'm being helpfully stupid or if I'm being sarcastic.

That being said, you still have to know how to stand up for yourself and be firm with people sometimes. Some people just keep pushing your buttons. Sarcasm, my friend, will become your best no-contact weapon, provided you use it correctly.

Shorter than a firecracker fuse around the right (wrong) people. I've no time for arrogant d-bags. :colbert: My temper has gotten me in some hot water, in the past. Jail is not very fun.
