Yea i noticed right away lol. I noticed you were wearing a slayer shirt then i was like hey thats KK!
i dont really get to go to that many concerts. Ive only seen the acacia strain and hatebreed. Both were at Toads Place in New Haven, CT. Its like a club and pretty small so idk if you would even call it a concert. The place couldnt have more than 1,000-1,500 people in it by my guess? ALthough with that said im kinda iffy about concerts. I enjoy the music and the band. Most fans i meet are pretty cool too. But getting pushed around and having drunk morons try and pick fights with me is kinda annoying lol. All in all, i would say im more of an at home listener and appreciator!:)

Still up (4:45 A.M.) waiting for my computer to finish rendering a CAD model, and have been listening to some bands that I haven't in a while, so I figured I would post them.

(If I would have known how long this render was going to take I would have just let it run overnight and worry about it in the morning... I started the render at 6:00 P.M. last night...)

    Nightwish:

My stepdad loves Nightwish, theyre decent imo but not my favorite. If were bringing dragon metal into the mix, if thats even real lol, then i assume Dragonforce would fall under that lol!
Human Abstract and From the Embrace are both good! Thats pretty cool that you know them.
Another band i really like that i havent seen mentioned so far is Lamb of God. Theyre the first band that kinda got me into the "cookie monster vocals" as jinx put it. :gj:

one more contribution to this thread, and again not exactly in line with Aaron's original intent, but close enough to warrant a listen by anyone who appreciates good, hard-nosed rock.

clutch is the best band that no one has heard of, and the below video is for their song 'burning beard' off the album 'robot hive/exodus.' the song is stellar but the video concept is interesting as well.

these guys are also one of the best live acts still touring as well.

Clutch was at an all day concert near me last year. I hadn't heard of them before then but became addicted quickly.

Yup. It took me a while to accept and understand growling/screaming vocals when I first discovered metal. Now I love them. Growling vocals are just a more aggressive form of singing, in a lot respects it is similar to using distortion/overdrive on a guitar. As with all forms of singing there are both good and bad vocalists. Some growling vocalists, like Chris Barnes of Cannibal Corpse, are very monotone and are not what I would consider a good vocalist. Others such as Mikael Akerfeldt of Opeth have a lot more range and versatility and generally follow an actual vocal melody. What is even better is when you can combine both.

you should see me going HAM when the guy on the electric kazoo comes out at the concert! lol... I kinda agree with you though, but who are we to say what instruments belong in what genre of music!

Opeth (older Opeth especially) is phenomenal! Pure class all the way. Have you listened to anything from "Damnation" yet? Not all metal is necessarily heavy. Just because something is mellow doesn't mean it isn't any less evil.

Meh, not so much into the newer stuff like that. I much prefer the older heavier stuff. Doesnt sound like the same band imo.

Have you listened to Gojira before? I looked on roadrunner records website, since i like alot of the bands they usually cover, and saw them. Ive only listened to a few of there songs but really like this one in particular:

Those mellow songs are actually rather old. They are before "The Grand Conjurgation", which was on the "Ghost Reveries" album. Their newer stuff I was referring to would be albums such as "Heritage" and "Watershed". Watershed was weak at best and Heritage was just horrible. They lost several key band members and took a whole new musical direction. Damnation was definitely a new direction for them, but it still had that classic Opeth charm and feeling to it. Similar clean, melodic riffs can be heard mixed in with a lot of their earlier work. This is where they really shine to me. They can make that transition between heavy and clean without it being harsh. Very tasteful.

I was actually just listening to Gojira earlier. Not my favorite band, but they are alright.

Oh i gotta do some more research then lol! Idk i liek the heavy stuff you posted of them before but all those mushy clean vocals in these songs dont really do it so much for me.

Gojira is cool, but i only listened to like 3 of there songs so idk if i really like them yet or not. I really like that whale song though. Whale metal is gunna be a whole new genre, i can see it now! lol

I've been trying to brush up on them a bit. It would be nice to at least have a decent idea who they are before we see them later this year with LOG and Dethklok.

I can appreciate them for what they are, a joke band. From a musical stand point, yeah, they are kind of lame, but that is part of the humor. They are generic. I put them in the same lot as bands like Psychostick and The Bloodhound Gang.

Meh, doesnt sound like metal imo. Sounds like a little bit heavier version of Greenday with a dash of some Dragonforce in there somewhere. To be fair i wasnt really a fan of any of that J-rock stuff you posted before either. Just not my cup of tea, doesnt mean you cant like it.:)

Fair enough. I'm the same way, but every once in a while a little humor is appreciated. Just like every so often I'll back off of my typical metal listening and play some REO Speedwagon or Styx. Its nice to change things up occasionally.
