You can always do what I did and take a girl who isn't into snakes, and introduce her to them. Kristen (my gal) isn't as crazed about them as I am, but she can certainly appreciate them.

I have absolutely no idea. :worry: I was figuring I'd head down south since more reptiles=more of a need for reptile specialists (vets, animal control, etc.) and try to find something down that way. It's been a real challenge finding a college/university with a good herpetology AND vet program...

Right now I'm in my freshman year of my AA degree, so I've got some time to figure it out.

Cornell university in NY has one of the best vet programs in the country. Its the Harvard or Yale of vet schools.

I agree with TJ BURTON. Find a girl and convert her. :))) my girlfriends Looooooves our reptiles. We even have a tarantula now which she is fascinated with and when we first started dating she was terrified by the notion of both reptiles and spiders. :)

You should seriously frequent pet stores...maybe bring one of your really nice balls with you. Im sure youll get lots of girls asking you questions about it, can they hold it, etc,. I promise we do exist too! Me and my husband found each other on this forum! When we first started talking to each other, we lived almost three hours apart, in different states. And theres lots of girls who come into the store that love snakes or have them that are single. Keep your eyes open :)

Well I have never had a girl zing up to me at the pet store to ask me about balls... guess I need to frequent a different pet store.

I do seem to see a lot of girls walking around shows, but hard to tell who was dragged there by a BF and who was not. Plus I am not a pick-up line kinda guy, so that approach is likely out.

Maybe when I start vending, the available ladies can flock to me, lol. But then I will not know if it is for me or my balls...

I've never had a boyfriend that's been really into animals... My current SO is pretty neutral about the snakes.

What I wish I had was more cool friends or even partners/mentor-types in the hobby. I hate doing everything alone. Most of my (local, non internet) acquaintances and family just think I'm odd.

My now wife hated lizards and snakes she almost killed me when I brought home a bearded dragon. But after awhile one bearded dragon turned into two bearded dragon and then it was the battle of the snakes ha ha Took me forever but I finally convinced her to try holding a ball python. Now we have a total of three bearded dragons and three ball pythons and she picked up a leopard gecko. So even though she started out hating the reptiles now she loves them and is considering breeding the ball pythons.

Where are you from? Im sure theres more snake people around you than you think.....We met our new good buddy at a show, and had no idea he was so close by...only seven miles from us! I think part of it is the laws and stuff with snakes. Guys and gals are afraid to come out of the woodworks over fear of letting people know they have snakes. It kinda sux. I wish there was a local "reptile club", but the closest one I think is in Lancaster.

My last girlfriend kept leopard geckos. She was fascinated by Magnus, but didn't know anything about snakes until I brought him home. Once she realized he was too little to harm her, she warmed up to him a lot.

the guy I'm kinda seeing now seems to think snakes are cool, but I'm not sure about his actual interest level. He's not yet Magnus yet. Since I entered the dating pool again, he's been the first test I put prospectives through ;) if you don't love my snakes, you can't love me. It's really the only rule I have when ' getting to know someone. If the person isn't a fan of snakes, but is willing to learn about them, that's ok too.

This will limit you a ton. I would amend that to, "if you don't support me in my hobbies and interests". Why does the guy HAVE to love your snakes? Guys get stuck going shopping all the time. If they don't love it does the chick dump him? No lol

I'm from the NY metro area, specifically Long Island. There are definitely people out here and I usually meet new people at expos. Right now I'm not really being as open as I once was because unfortunately I had a scary incident involving a local herp person threatening and borderline stalking me. It almost drove me out of the hobby entirely but I decided that all the great people and experiences outweigh the small fraction of bullies and nasty people out there.. :)

Well I mean, it does have more flexibility than it sounds like in text. Like, if my partner doesn't want to hold my snakes or watch me feed them or other things that may lead to the person getting squicked out, of course I'd never force it. The person just has to be aware that the well-being of my snakes comes before a romantic relationship. If they threaten to kill my animals out of fear or something like that, they can just walk out the door now. And I spend a LOT of my time thinking and talking about reptiles, so it would be in everyone's best interests for us to have similar or corresponding enthusiasms.

EDIT: and a girl MIGHT dump a guy for not wanting to go shopping! It depends on the girl. It's the same sort of thing with me and my pets. :D

I joined a local forum for Virginia herp lovers, they occasionally get together and have events. Not a bad way to meet people, I have also made a friend through this site. I am not shy about letting people know about my hobby.. you would be amazed at how many people express interest.

I know I'm super late to the party, but I actually met someone on here. We started talking because he lived literally down the road from me (maybe 5 miles or so). We ended up having a lot in common and always sharing our balls with one another. Now he thinks we're in a relationship and well...I'm terrified of relationships (dad issues :rolleyes: ).

I say all this to say...it is possible to meet people here on the forums or at an expo. It just sometimes takes talent. And if you're trailing me...you must have patience and perseverance. I've been running from this guy for probably 9 months and he's still coming back xD I should probably keep him.

That far? uhh! I thought about looking for one and keep forgetting to check. Honestly, having a "snake buddy" male or female would be nice. There is a nature center near me, I need to go yell at them for false advertising. The site states "the snakes have no teeth thus they swallow their food in one piece with no chewing." Although it's copyrighted 2009 but the calendar of events is updated regularly. I want to go "yell" at them to update and need to stop being lazy about it.

I mull this over in my head sometimes cause I figure it's a good idea. :shrugs:

I frequent a few of the local pet stores as a form of meditation. I have a good rapport with the stores so they sometimes let me walk around with one of their snakes around my neck and it gets people running and screaming or uber curious. The girls that typically come up to me are NEVER single. grrrrr.
