Don’t get me wrong.
Even though our justice system as well as our government is broken and corrupt. I am very proud to be an American. Between my other half and I, we have spent 19 years of service defending this nation. Fighting for the rights of others to live the life of freedom.

It is a sad day when a human life is worth less than an animals in some people's eyes. I truly can't bear to read this thread anymore. It literally makes me sick just thinking about it...

Realy?
My dog is mine. It is part of MY family. I will save MY family before I save a stranger. Is that realy wrong?
Now if the question was who would you save from drowning a stray dog or a human? Then I would have to say the human.

Ever think that he can't face what he has done because he is embarassed by it and actually regrets what he has done? Also keep in mind that he grew up in the projects in Virginia where things like this were probably going on all around him. While I know iggnorance is no excuse for stupidity, think through your life. I'm sure there were numerous things that you did, that you had to get punished for before you realized what you did was wrong. Well now he has been punished and realizes and admits he was wrong, so why not get off him.
You also brought refrence to an uncle of yours, and while I feel for your situation, your uncles repeat offenses can't even be compared to this. What has Vick "messed up" on since he served his punishment? Not everybody goes back to their old ways.
It's all the negative people that are unwilling to forgive people that make our world so crappy. Whats the point in holding a grudge?
And quite frankly,

Re: Keep Michael Vick off the cover of Madden '12
The point I'm trying to make is as a society we tend to attack the individual and not the institution. And this individual ONLY because the corporate media decided to focus so much attention on it. It was pushed on us because the HSUS and PETA (type groups) made a killing as far a profits. Look how many shows on APBTs popped up on Animal Planet, National Geographics during and after his case. A lot of people made money, believe me. And it was not because they love the breed or hate dog fighting like many of us. But because if dog fighting made the right people money it would be legal too. This is a capitalist society. Profits will ALWAYS be put over people.
I'm happy someone brought up Rape'em Roethlisberger. this guy sexually assaulted 2 known women. ESPN didn't even touch it the first time around. The second time they had to. Where was the outcry here? If Roethlisberger was raping pitbulls then there would have been outrage.
So in no ways do i support cruelty to animals. I simply choose to look at the bigger picture.

First off, i'm a stubborn country woman and I love a good debate. I thank you for that. :)
And, there is a big difference in being raised to what is right and wrong, and knowing what is right and wrong. If you are raised in a Texas Chainsaw Massacre kind of home, you should still know killing is wrong. You can not always blame everything on how you were raised, eventually you have to grow up and make your own mind up.
Vick hasn't messed up anything since being out, but he is still being criticized by every move. I think he's being careful because he knows he's being watched like a hawk. What happens when we take our eyes off of him? What will happen when he retires, and is not longer on the tip of our tongues? That will be his true test, and maybe then i'll believe he has truly changed. But, it will take more than a press conference, an apology, and a few million dollars for my sympathy. :colbert:

Only because he hasn't be caught again........EVERYONE eventually goes back to doing what they love to do;) be it drugs, booze, wife beating, dog fighting, or :cens0r::cens0r::cens0r::cens0r: fighting.

Re: Keep Michael Vick off the cover of Madden '12
Wow, look what I started.....
Personally I like the way Hillis runs the ball, and don't want the face of the NFL for gamers and kids to be Vick. Vick can play all he wants, i could care less about that. Work is boring and I won't have any eggs hatching for another month so need something to fill my time. So my goal for this month is to get Peyton Hillis on the cover of Madden '12, a man needs hobbies.
For the other stuff....
Mice and rats die for snakes to eat, cows die for me to eat, last I check no one ate those dogs. They were killed inhumanly for selfish reasons.
My dog is a golden retriever and swims better than me. I also know how dangerous it is to swim out to save someone who is drowning. They typically try to use your body to get out of the water and will endanger your life. Besides if my dog can't make the swim, I have no chance either. So if a rope or float is around I'll throw it to the guy, if not I'll keep myself safe and chose to save neither. I have kids at home to think about and I can get another dog.
I like my dog better than most people, but that's an unfair contest because I spend more time with my dog and she impacts my life more. However my kids and wife are more important than the dog, even though I've had her longer. In general a strangers life is more important than a strange dog, but if the person is a jerk and the dog is cool I might change my mind.
PETA, HSUS, no thank you.
Looking at the original 32 'players' that were in the voting tournament, I would have liked to see Seattle's 12th man on the cover, Fans make the league and Seattle has the best (well, tied with Pittsburgh anyway).
And finally, it's just the cover of a video game, not really that serious. It's not like the 2nd place guy is placed on an iceburg and sent adrift. Besides, Mike Vick was already on the cover..... give someone else a chance. Anyway if the game is so realistic there is a chance when you turn it on it won't work.

Now why did we have to bring Texas into this?:O:O:O
I like our eye for an eye.
Also like our death penalty, just wish they could speed up the process so all my tax dollars wouldnt be going to waste on supporting dead men living:salute::salute:

But if this were true, our world would be doomed. This is basically giving up on any good coming from mankind, which is completely false. I have known a couple of ex-alcoholics who haven't had a sip of liquor in over 20 years. So not EVERYBODY goes back to their old ways.

Madden 10 had a rapist on it but nobody cares about keeping him off the cover and in my book rape or any sex crime is worse than dog fighting so give it a rest let EA games put whomever they want on thier cover as long as the game is good
O and im a viking fan so no loyalties to the guy
Im gonna have to agree as well , he did his time for his crime so everyone just needs to move on , nobody cried like this about the rapist when he made the cover and like it was said already being a rapist is far more worse then dog fighting ..

This stuff of everyone being fine with Vick just show's how terrible our societies morals have gone to the pooper and that the NFL is really heading toward the dumps. Look at the problems they have potentially no season this year all the players are Convicts. Jeesh I need to stop fighting in the cage and be a pro football player so I can do whatever I want or a famous singer or T.V. star so I can be above the law and do what I want and get millions for it. Where did our values go in this country? :(

I have yet to see anyone say there were fine with what Vick did . But just like any person if they did their time then that should be it . 1) he lost everything he owned , 2) he served his prison time .. so whats the reason for beating it to death any further ? there isn't one .. NOBODY'S fine with what he did but don't you have more important things to worry about then what Vick is doing ?

Really?
Ok say this homeless person has been given the chance to be a regular citizen with having a job, a home, and a family.
He turns to drugs, alcohol blah blah and has lost this family and lives on the streets. This person had their chance, they are now responsible for their lives and being homeless.
Granted im NOT saying all homeless people are/were substance abusers! And maybe its easy for me to say since as you can imagine north dakota doesnt have a whole lot of homeless people. And yes I let them take free popcorn from my bar if they come in because that popcorn maybe their only meal of the day, and thats sad for sure. There are TOO MANY people on this planet and sorry if you dont agree but yes I would rather feed an animal then a person.
Also I mean as well that i would rather feed animals than people. Some animals depend on us for food. Pigeons of course being from Africa originally have multiplied so much here in the states that some native species of birds suffer which i dont agree with.
Were getting off the topic here but if it came down to my dogs getting their good $50 dog food and meaning i have to eat ramen noodles for a week I will do it because this dog depends on ME as a pet owner to provide for it. As does every pet we own.
So I would rather feed birds a loaf of bread than a homeless person, so be it. Thats just me! And just like with the topic of the whole thread....we will all have different OPINIONS and we all have a right to voice them. I will not criticise anyones point, because this is a thread strickly on opinions. Which is why i love debate. If it was facts, there would be no debate. But...thats just me.

Its alright, ive heard harsher words :)
I dont know, life in general is harsh to say the least really. Survival of the fittest and im sorry but if people would concentrate more on how to prevent homelessness for example would maybe do more good. How about being an actual creature of intelligence and planning offspring? We just keep multiplying on this earth and eventually we are going to run out of resources! I just think as creatures as intelligent as humans we just need better systems of thinking but we somehow seem to only live and think in the now.
The whole purpose of us being on this forum is we are animal lovers and pet owners. Of course family is the most important thing to us and some people look at their animals as their family members.
If I imagine someone doing to my dogs what Vick did to his I would only want the same thing to happen to him. Inhumane torture, a tooth for a tooth.
These dogs did not die because their bodies were used as sustainance for another creature, (ex. rats for snake food, cows for humans to eat, etc.) these dogs were killed because they were not performing right and not making the human money. Thats the sickest and most heartless thing I'VE ever heard! Money really is the root of all evil and it makes me depressed that most people only see animals as a way to make profit. And some will go to great lengths to get this money out of the animals, even if its not in the animals best interest. I mean look at all these new "designer" dog "breeds". I remember 10 years ago when a person could barely give a mutt dog away, now were making all these mutts as "designer" dogs and selling them for $500+. Making all these unwanted, unnecessary dogs when there are TONS of dogs in rescue centers all over the country. Theres NO reason to make a designer dog but people do it for money.
I dont agree he (Vick) was sincere in his apology or served the right time for his crime.
His crime has been over time just swept under the rug and pretty much forgotten. And I dont like that. And I dont agree that we should let felons play pro sports and be in the public eye. How about real heros? Like our soldiers DYING oversees? I see the news about Vick but what about an actual hero who gave his life for us so we can feel safe. Vick catches a football and people cheer, how about a cheer for the american military? Those are the people who should be seen and praised in my opinion.
