Do you care about the well being of these animals? Truly?

If you do then you should be opposed to this bill for a few reasons:

1- It does not allow for the interstate transportation of a banned species in order for giving emergency medical care.

2- It does not give owners of existing animals an option when they have to move. Taking it with them to another state would be a FELONY.

3- It does not give responsible owners who are educators exemption. Not all the people and groups out there teaching the public about animals are accredited zoos. For crying out loud there are individual turtle enthusiasts in this country with species that are actually EXTINCT in the wild. Our country is lucky in that we have so many well experienced, resourceful herbs out there who are able to literally work miracles. Zoos are important parts of conservation and education but they've never and will never be able to fulfill either of those two community needs solely by themselves.

You really think the activists who want this ban give a damn about the welfare of individual animals? These HSUS-types tried a few years ago to get the government to kill every conure in San Francisco's parrot hill without any scientific evidence to show a need for the request. The argument was "they're non-native, so kill them before it becomes a problem." Yet that colony had been established in SF for nearly a century without causing any problems to the environment or commerce. If they'd had their way the entire colony would have been poisoned or captured & ethuanized. Adopting them out as pets or capturing them to send them to breeders was never considered an option because that would stand in the way of their long term goal of ending all pet keeping forever. These are the same types of people who will refuse to let a snake at a shelter go to a breeder [that knows how to care for it properly] because that would "create more pets" and will instead just let it sit hoping for it to go to some kid who doesn't know how to care for it, and if that doesn't happen in a timely manner they'll just kill it themselves.

There are thousands of these 9 species in captivity already. Implement this ban and you know just as well as I do that people will end up killing them or releasing them into their backyards when either 1- they can't care for them anymore, or 2- they have to move to another state. Snakes with treatable medical problems will have to be euthanized whenever there are no specialists in the state. It will cause unnecessary pain, suffering, and avoidable deaths.

I didn't even read your post; because apparently, you missed mine where I changed my mind and don't support the ban anymore ;)

And as I stated, I wasn't even sure if I DID support it. I was just trying to discuss it. If I was dead set FOR the band, I wouldn't have been swayed so easily.

I am not interested in being right, I am interested in the truth. I didn't pick sides, I wasn't out to make a statement. I was simply looking for more information, which I got. And that information was more than enough to show me that this ban is hypocritical when you compare it to the care, and sometimes danger, of dogs.

    That alone is enough.

Correct me if I am wrong, but aside from the Boa Constrictor, all the other snakes are HUGE snakes like Rock Pythons, Anacondas, Burmese, Reticulated...

I have yet to see someone on any forum post a pic of their bedroom size enclosure for such a massive snake.

Call me in the minority, but I don't see a problem with banning these snakes. Why have so many wound up in the Everglades? They are simple to purchase, but very tough to house.

I am open to correction and discussion :)

The thing about big snakes is that in my opinion most people do own them responsibly. They don't need bedroom sized enclosures as a matter of fact they would hate bedroom sized enclosures. The size cage required for a retic burm or rock python is 6x4x3. just ask Brian or Lori from BHB. I don't own burms or retics but i do own and breed red tailed boas. They have never once bit or attacked me. i house them in 5x4x2 cages and thats actually bigger than what they need.
