Well, I went against my own advice and cut one of the eggs because worry had been nagging at me. It's the little one that had spent some time at the top of the pile as a chin rest for mom. It had wrinkled much earlier than the others and though it reflated a bit after I moved it, it has just stayed smaller than the rest and I wasn't sure if the baby inside was going to have much room in there as a result. All of the eggs have been sweating like crazy this week and I was getting water spots on the little egg and one other. I just didn't want to wait any longer on the little one so I snipped it yesterday. Inside I saw a perfectly healthy looking, albeit small, baby and it was definitely alive so I placed the egg back on the pile and left it alone. I didn't get any pics then but got a couple this morning.

The other seven eggs have still not pipped yet and I'll not cut them unless something seems amiss. Today makes Day 61.

Awesome! Good luck with the rest! These threads are always so much fun to follow! I think I am going to let one of our girls incubate the eggs next year!

I needed to add some water to the egg because it was looking a bit dry in there. I had my camera handy so I got some pics of the little one. I'm really not experienced with egg cutting. I'm more accustomed to just seeing heads peaking out of slits they make themselves so I don't typically see what else is in there. Could those of you who are more experienced in cutting please chime in here and let me know if the yolk sac looks normal? Should I even be seeing that?

Looks like he's got a bit to go. I beleive the veins should be going grey If he had been ready to pip. I'd keep him moist and I think hell be fine. I suspect the others won't pip for a few days.

I'm keeping an eye on the egg to see that it doesn't dry out. I do have a deli cup lined with wet paper towels sitting in the female's enclosure next to the nest so that it can warm up and be ready just in case I need to remove this little one because of the possible cord issue.

You can use Saline solution used for contacts as its sterile

Thanks for posting those pictures of you previous maternally incubated clutches pipping. That is the absolute cutest thing I've ever seen. Babies slithering around their mother. :P

Found this after checking on my deli cup baby.

Two of the eggs are pipping. I'll check in again later today to see if I have new heads peeking out.

    Day 62 :D

This raises a question on maternal incubation in my mind...

When does the momma leave the nest? When all the babies have crawled out of the egg?

I love your methods here. I really like that you're debunking the myths of moms incubating their own eggs and not eating. You should post more pics of them eating on their clutches.

I HATE the waiting game with a PASSION!!! I can't take it!!!!

Once the eggs start pipping, the moms loosen their coils and/or move off of the clutch. They don't stray far from the nest if they move off of the clutch in my experience. At least not until the babies leave. They seem to stick around and watch what's going on in the nest. This female has been flicking her tongue over each of the newly pipped eggs and keeps repositioning herself in there.

Great odds so far! That is one good momma you got there. I will definitely be trying maternal incubation in one of my clutches next season. You have inspired me! :D And I look forward to pictures of the babies once they are out!

    OH MY GOSH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've been missing a lot! I've been away from bp.net... well, yeah, because I haven't had any questions. LOL...

We're not breeding this year so I'm very relieved I didn't have to go through that drama again. LOL!

But man... reading about your maternal incubation kinda made me miss that excitement of it! I'm looking at my momma snake right now and I swear she gave me that look of - I wanted to do that this year! Why didn't you breed me! Waaa waaa waaa... :D

    Congrats!!!

I still have four babies sitting in eggs but it looks like I've got four mojaves and four normals. :) I must say, though, my female and her enclosure are going to be cleaned as soon as all the babies are out. She and her tub are just a gooey mess right now. lol

The last two babies finally hatched out and were moved to a hatchling tub with the other. There are 4 Mojaves and 4 Normals. They haven't shed yet but I wanted to get some quick snapshots of the group anyway. Not that they were very cooperative. I'd forgotten just how much baby balls like to move when you have a camera in hand. ;)

She's supposed to be het burgundy according to her previous owner's receipt. This is the only normal baby that really has the same belly markings. If it's male I might hold this one back. I'm waiting until they shed to get more pics and to sex them all.
