I'm a Systems Architect (Technology Field)

I work at Keystone Automotive Operations (the aftermarket auto supplier) warehouse in PA. I am the only woman certified to operate equiptment (ex. High reach stock picker-aka cherry picker, rider pallet truck-aka load hog) I get a big long sheet of stickers and drive around the warehouse to specific locations and get consumer parts. I know this doesnt sound hard, but in the "back zones" where only equiptment is used, all of the parts we have to get are over 70lbs. and usually 15-35 ft in the air (exhaust systems, grille guards, lift kits, superchargers, motors, transmissions..etc) But im going to be going to school for my criminal justice degree, although everyone keeps telling me to go into pastry haha

Re: What does every one do for a living?
I'm a cop in a little town in Indiana.
Kudos to you, JamieH, for going to school for your criminal justice degree. It's an incredible job field and has any number of opportunities for specializing, if you care to. It's been the hardest and equally the most rewarding job (career, I guess) that I've ever worked.
Pretty cool to see/hear the variety of jobs/careers people have and a shared interest/love of reptiles in common.

I suppose I can actually answer this question now. I'm going to be an account manager for a "contact center". I start on the 21st of this month! My first full time job ever!
I was a college student and worked for people with mental disabilities in a house setting. A nice change of pace with my new job I think.

Re: What does every one do for a living?
I help teach mentally handicapped people life skills.

Slitherin, Luscious, my hat's off to both of you. That job field take a very special kind of person to work with people with those diagnoses.
Congratulations on landing that job, Slitherin, hope it's everything you want it to be and it works out well for you!

Thank you very much! I'm super excited to start the new job and you are so right about it taking a special kind of person! That was one of the hardest jobs ever and I did it for 2.5 years while working on my BA. I'm totally burnt out and happy to move on to a desk job!
I actually started my school 'career' in criminal justice, but switched to Sociology to be more diverse and I enjoyed the research part. My original plan out of college was to get a job as a social worker in the prison system, but Iowa is on a hiring freeze in many, if not all departments :( I put in 160+ apps and finally landed this job and I'm happy as a peach.

Re: What does every one do for a living?
That's awesome, Slitherin! And IOWA, really?! Heck yeah! My wife was born and raised there and still has family in the Cedar Rapids, Shell Rock, Waverly areas.
I hear ya' on the hiring freeze. Sucks. I was hoping to make a move out there to the State Highway Patrol or a small town agency but it isn't looking good for the present time. I loved my sociology classes in college. Those and anthropology...hahahaha! I'm such a nerd, lol!
And Cheyenne Mountain...that's NORAD territory, isn't it? Thank you very much for your service, whatever you do. Have the utmost respect for service personnel and I very much appreciate what you all do.

Re: What does every one do for a living?
I'm a CNA in a long term care facility (aka a nursing home) I'm hoping to get hired into a hospital where I can do more stuff, and further my career in the medical field. I want to eventually get my RN.

Re: What does every one do for a living?
Damn! After posting my response, I read EVERYTHING and found that everyone has amazing jobs so....I'm going to make mine sound more galmerous.
I am employed at the largest family owned pest mamagement company on the West Coast: Clark Pest Control. We assist home oweners, and property owners, with erraticating and protecting their most valued assest: their home. We provide services for general pests as well as rodents and termites.
My specific jobs are scheduling appointments for customers andensuring the company stays in business by attempting to contact customers on their past due balances and preventing them from going into further debt. My job is rewarding and I know I am helping others by working at an amazing company.
Basically? I schedule appointments and collect money from people. But I really do love my job and, mostly, the company.

I will hopefully be getting my online bakery going soon as well. I have a few more months of testing recipes, but will hopefully be opening a "Store" on etsy.com

Re: What does every one do for a living?
Sheena, that's AWESOME! Dorks unite, lmao! Hahahahaha! I'm only kidding and I'm soooooooooo including myself in that statement, so please don't be offended. Those are awesome perks that you find and get to keep some of the critters rather than fumigating them, lol!
That's a hard but rewarding route to take, Dexter. My wife is a BSN/RN and it was a lot of hard work but she loves her job...most of the time, lol! What kind of stuff are you planning for your bakery? You know, as a cop, I've sampled some of the finest gourmet pastries around, lmao! Hahahahahaha! Not really, I'm not much of a fan of that stuff, but I'd certainly give your products a try once you get it up and going.

Re: What does every one do for a living?
Today I made Chocolate Mayan Cookies. (chocolate cookies with chocolate chips and a healthy dash of cayenne pepper, they have a very nice kick to them) but its mostly going to be cookies, fudges, pastries (trying pumpkin and white chocolate scones out next weekend), I haven't decided if I'm going to do Cupcakes or not yet, and I might dabble with some candies.
-
WOW! Quite the range of items, Dexter! That's waaaaaaaaaaaay over my head, lol! I have trouble mixing a whiskey sour, let alone actually cooking anything besides microwave popcorn, lol! Are you setting up a web-site or word of mouth initially or...you mentioned etsy...not sure what that is so if that's a web-site, asked and already answered, I guess.
-
Re: What does every one do for a living?
I'm going to start a little shop on Etsy to start with, and if I eventually turn a profit I will start up a website. Etsy.com is a site where a massive amount of people sign uo and sell their stuff, artwork, baked goods/sweets just all kinds of stuff.
http://www.etsy.com/
I will be looking for testers in the in a couple of months if you want to sign up. I'm thinking of sending a free box of a dozen assorted sweets to some people to try to drum up some business.
-
I'll see what I can do on this end for ya', Dexter. I'm diabetic and FAT to boot, LMAO!, but I'll see if I can steer some people your way...
I hadn't heard of etsy before...goes to show what I know, lol!

Lol, yep, Iowa :P I'll admit it, I love Iowa, other than the cold... The hiring freeze totally screwed me over. I had the chance to chat with the guy that heads Iowa Corrections and he pretty much told me I had a job when I graduated...then the hiring freeze happened... :tears:
You know...I just saw a posting for State Patrol in Iowa not long ago. I told Blake, my fiance, about it and he just looked at me like I was nuts, lol. He didn't really like the idea of me working in a prison either. He worries too much  :P I think he was really stressed for the first year of our relationship because I was working in a locked unit of juvenile sex offenders  That was my favorite job!

I commend you for your hard work. CNA work is no doubt the hardest job on the planet. I worked as a home heath aide in a dementia unit and it was horribly hard work emotionally and physically. I hope you get to your dream of being an RN. I know you can do it! My mom was prego with me at 17, got her GED, and now she's an RN making good money. It's hard work and not an easy path, but if she can do it, you can do it! Good luck :gj:
Although, it sounds like you might be following a different passion, good luck with whatever you choose! :gj:

That sucks, Slitherin! Dang! If it helps any, it took me a year after I graduated the law enforcement academy to land a job...I paid my way through on my own dime as part of my degree while most normal (read: "more intelligent than ME!") people get hired by an agency then are paid while they attend. Oh well, live and learn!
It's an awesome career field and I wouldn't want to do anything else but then I never claimed to be very smart, lmao! Hahahahaha! Regardless, glad things are looking up for you even if it's not your dream job...hang in there! And truthfully, law enforcement is not any more dangerous than most any other job, really, depending on the area in which you work, obviously. Heck, I've got more scars and sustained more injuries working in a welding shop than I have in the duration of my career, lol! Maybe that says something about my abilities as a welder...hmmm... :D

That's hilarious and seems to be the trend! Never ceases to amaze me at some of these guys: fire-breathing mofo's that stare down guns like they eat breakfast and don't bat an eye but if I bring in a SHED even, let alone a live animal, they're running for hills! Hahahahahaha! Shame on me for the childish glee I get from scaring the living daylights out of some of them, lmao!

Lol, I'm glad you finally got a job in the field, even if it took a year! That would have been depressing!
-
It was slightly so, Slitherin, lol! Working at Target and a welding shop, while interesting and an income, was not what I had spent 5 years of my life working towards, to say the least, lol! It all worked out in the process, thankfully. Thanks for the kind words; it certainly makes me appreciate what I have.
My wife has a cousin and his wife who both work in corrections. They actually met in prison...! BWHAHAHAHAHA! Not like THAT! They're both guards at the same facility...I couldn't tell you to save my life which one but if they ever lift the freeze, I can see about openings there if it's anywhere close to you or otherwise find out if either one of them know of anything in your area. He's a supervisor and she...well...I think she quit, last I heard, as she was pregnant and they didn't have anything other than dealing with the inmates for her to do, soooooooo...
