Usually that doesn't work with large prolapses, but it's supposed to sort of...make it go back inside if it can. Usually Vaseline or the sugar water works on very small prolapses, when less than 1/4 of an inch is visible.

All life is important, no matter what kind of life it is.
All life is important, yes. Not all life has the same value, however. I would much sooner shoot a deer than I would a human. So if that is your REAL view on life, then you must cease to eat. Not even plants, because they're living things too.

I am looking for information as to the sugar/water ratio, but so far am not finding much....here are a few links which you may find helpful.

Also, out of curiosity, have you tried simply calling a vet? I don't think they would charge for you just calling them up and inquiring about the issue. You would probably get much more useful information that way AND be able to work out a payment plan in case your friend does not work out.

Your advice isn't the only legitimate advice. It's a snake. Prolapsed hemipene or prolapsed rectums happen in nature, just as in captivity. Do you think that a snake in nature would stand any better chance? No. I am keeping it clean, moist and disinfected. My dear, poor snake would have been long dead by now in the wild. So are you going to get on my case for not searching out every snake in the wild with a prolapsed hemipene and trying to save it too? There's more to life, my friend.
When you get a pet you are making a commitment to keeping it healthy. The bottom line is that this snake is NOT IN THE WILD it is in your home, under YOUR care. In the beginning, it was not showing pain as a defense mechanism to not show fear and look weak. The reason now that your snake isn't showing any reaction to you poking his hemipene is likely because the tissue has become necrotic and probably can't feel you poking it anyway. Infection will set in any day now and the snake will die from a lack of vet care, that YOU were supposed to provide.
Why would you take a child to the doctor if it were sick? Because you bore the child and have a responsibility to take care and nurture it.
Why would you take a snake to the vet if it were sick? Because you took it under your roof under the guise of a caring pet owner and have a responsibility to care and nurture it.

AND for the record, I'm not a "hippie". I just care for animals and the environment. I will eat a chicken for dinner and cut down a tree to heat my house. And talking down to us, the ones who gave you the proper and ONLY legitimate advice, isn't going to get you anywhere. OF COURSE we were rude to you, instead of taking care of your snake who will now have permanent damage because his "owner" refused to give him the necessary care because he was "asking around for an inexpensive vet". You should have been calling around and seeing if someone could work something out with you, or if they would accept a post dated check. Not just waiting for the magical tool called FaceBook to offer you a solution.
A dog getting an erection is not a prolapse.

Just because the likelihood of your dog having the same injury as your snake is low doesn't mean it will never need vet care that you can't afford.
Believe it or not, I TOTALLY understand the fiscal dilemma you are facing. The problem is not whether or not you can afford a vet...but rather....your method of trying to justify or excuse your unwillingness to see what people are trying to tell you.
I hope you really did find an "old friend" who is now a vet who happens to have experience dealing with snakes (somewhat rare in the vet world)...and who also happens to live close enough to you to offer free services. And I hope he's still there for you when your dog needs help, too.
My dog is not my snake. I got my snake for fun. I got my dog because I needed something after a rough tour in Iraq; my dog saved my life by saving me from myself. My snake is a convenience.

Vaginal prolapse. Happens when the females are in heat...

Again, stop relating a SNAKE to a HUMAN! There's a difference. If you're so attached to your PET snake that you feel that it is your own offspring, then you need a psychiatrist. Being unable to differentiate a pet from a child is a serious issue.

It's the same thing when the penis dries out and will not retract. They need surgery BEFORE it dries out and starts to die. It's called a penile prolapse and it's fairly common.

Learn to accept that you are wrong. The snake should be properly cared for, just as a child should be. We can differentiate between right and wrong, and apparently you cannot.

SNAKES are NOT CHILDREN! There is a HUUUUGE difference in the value of life!

Might be best to take a break.
The bottom line here is, most of the people here put the same value on their pet snake as they do their pet dog, or their pet cat, and have a hard time understanding a seemingly callous response to getting proper medical care for their pet, an animal that depends 100% on the level of care you provide it.
If your snake is just a convenience and a low priority to your wallet, and even to your emotional response to it (or lack of emotional response), perhaps it's best to re-home it to someone who is willing to get it the proper care that it needs.

her post said that it happens when there is a "female in the area in heat" (Paraphrased). This would imply that the pharamones in the air would affect other dogs. Which gender of dog gets roused when there is a female in heat?

Yep, I've spent every moment since I got home from work doing just that. Thanks :)
I really am not completely cold and callous about this subject, I have been tending to my snake frequently. I have been on this forum, visiting friends and calling people trying to get a solution. Everyone please stop criticizing my character because I have a hard time justifying the cost, and an even harder time getting CREDIT, e.g. going into DEBT for this. I have been diligently searching for a viable solution to this.

Whoops...I forgot all about that. I thought you were reffering to the females.

Just wanted to address the issue of your snake becoming a "feeder snake" for another snake......REALLY bad idea. Your snake most likely has an infection that will be passed on to whatever snake eats it. Decomposing tissue is full of bacteria. Then that person will have vet issues. Seriously, if you don't want or can't afford to pay a vet, call a rescue. They will take the snake and see that it gets the treatment it needs.
