Illinois sucks right about now! I'm stuck at work 35 miles from home because the blizzard is preventing my relief from showing up. My dogs are in a crate and omg I'm freaking out.

I usually always pickup my stuff at the reptile swap.... you got another spot to share??
-
There is a privately owned shop called Rainbow Pets in Schaumburg, they have a ton of reptiles and they always look healthy and happy. They also sell some odds and ends as well. That's where I go if I am unable to make it to a swap cuz of work or something. I prefer swaps because they are cheaper but when In a pinch I hit up Rainbow Pets.
-
Re: 1st from Illinois
Where in Schaumburg is rainbow pets?? give me streets if possible... Thanks for the heads up on that, when in a pinch which i was last week i ran to petco and almost threw up for what the charge for small frozen rats... I seem to always miss the swap so i know where you're coming from on that.. Usually when i do get to go I STOCK UP! I get enough to last for awhile. HAHA!!
I only have one Ball now so its not that bad..
Thanks again!

Went to Repticon that was at the Kane County fairgrounds this weekend. It was pretty cool. They didn't do much advertising so it was kinda dead. It will be back in Jan so anyone who is close or wants to make the drive I'd suggest it. I picked up and animal plastics CB70 (4) rack for 250. I was going to build one but for that price I was sold. I checked online and that rack is 260 w/ belly heat but no tubs included. This rack takes the iris tubs and each tub is like 14 dollars so I saved $10 just on the rack itself then $56 on tubs and the $50 for shipping. That's $116 I saved! Totally worth it!

Awesome deal! I was there as well. Got me a green tree python and an amazon tree boa :)
Overall I think it was a really great show. It was a little dead, but it was their first chicago show. All things considered I thought they did a great job. A few questionable vendors selling some sad looking animals, but I just steered clear of them.
There has been a lot of people complaining (mainly over facebook) about Repticon. I don't really see what all the fuss is about. There are always a few sad looking animals at every show. :/ I think a lot of chicago people skipped out on Repticon completely so that they can remain faithful to other shows that are established in the area. I personally go to all of them.
-
Yeah I go to all of them as well. And I agree, there are always some questionable vendors at every show. I liked it and will definitely going back in January.
Have you posted pics of the new guys yet?

I will also be returning in January. Overall I thought it was much cleaner than the AAE..
I posted a photo of the GTP over in morelia, but I will be making a post over in herp events/general herp once I go through all the photos I took at the show :)

Yeah I got 5 new snakes in the last 3 months. I've posted a few pictures of the butter pastel and pewter. Waiting for the BCI to shed before I take pictures.
The green tree is a little pissy so I try to keep the camera out of his face. Lol! And I just gotta get around to posting pics of the ATB.

Anybody know of any reptile clubs/organizations that I'd be able to join? I'd enjoy talking about reptiles and maybe even some handling!

Chicago herp society meets once a month. There is a Facebook group for windy city reptiles.

I've heard of that from the zoo, but, I need to search them up more. And I've joined that page two weeks ago lol.

I'm from the south side of Chicago that expo isn't ur best bet usually unless ur buying from Rick Schroeder I think is his last name I have bought three off mark petrol on the north side great guy good prices or the reptile house in orland they breed almost all the stuff in house
-
I'll probably be at the next aae to pick up rats. Not my favorite show in the Chicago area but its the only one I can get rats from regularly. There are some great breeders there.

What other shows are around the northwest suburbs? Within 30-40min ride of me maybe? Only one I know is Scott smiths I'd really like to not have to wait till the 20th and I would like to see what else is out there
-
I know repticon is at the end of the month. The next narbc is in march, so if you want something sooner, aae it is. I've gotten plenty of quality animals from that show, don't get me wrong.
Are you planning on going to the Saturday show this weekend or the one later in the month?

The Sunday show on the 20th I work satirdays or I would get my girl then.. I got her a acrylic cage that I'm building.. Well it's just about done need to figure out how to bond aluminum to acrylic for some exterior trim and a lock set up
-
Ah gotcha. There are usually a few more people vending at the saturday show, that sucks you have to work :(
Which morphs are you looking at? I assume you are looking to get a hatchling.
-
Yes a hatchling as it will b abort first and hobby second.. Im looking for either a lesser, butter spider idk something that looks cool and diff but I def want something that shows none of this het for this or that as I won't b breeding for quite some time.. Looking to spend no more the 300
-
After a year or two plan is to get a multi gene male like maybe lesser spider so I have a shot at a bel
-
Sounds like a good plan. 300 can go a long way, especially at a show where you can negotiate prices :) Nowadays there are plenty of single gene morphs under $300.
