Wow that's shocking that Ryan would sex it wrong. He is a local here and we have done business a few times and everything we have gotten has been properly sexed. Hopefully you get everything worked out!

What a beauty! Hope the male /female screw up is taken in consideration by the seller. I wonder how often that happens. I don't think it should ever happen with such a high end snake.

Im bummed that the lavender is a male. That's all I can say. What is shocking is I found out it was a male 40 days after my purchase from Josh platt and he does not and will not make it right that he sold me a male advertised as a female. Clockwork claims that they had many people pop it to determine the sex. Hemipenes and sperm plugs do not grow on a female (sarcasm). It's just shocking that I have paid big money for a snake that no one wants to come forward and make good with this huge error. I would make a mistake like this right just to keep my reputat:colbert:ion good. It will pay off later. Just my 2 cents.

I guess even with big money breeders like clockwork I need to sex my animals to double check the gender.

Ryan said he could find a buyer for it. I guess I would rather keep this male since his coloring is exceptional. It is a shame because I have to wait 2 years to breed this male to my Lav female or find older lavs which are hard to get. My hets will not be ready for another year or two as well.

I wanted to breed this "female" to a reduced pattern clown male this year. It did not work out when it turned out to be a male.

The best I can hope for is to find some females co-doms and breed him to them if Im lucky enough to find some.

I found out it was a male when I paired the Lav with a reduced pattern clown male and the Lav began to hiss and became combative towards the clown.
My buddy Lou rodriguez can verify this because it was his clown and my Lav. He witnessed the event. He sexed the Lav and that was it "hemipenes and all"

I acquired the snake through kingsnake from Josh platt who bought it from clockwork reptiles.

You can sell that snake for what you paid for it. It sucks that you may need to, but you should be able to.

Another thing. Although Clockwork may have made a mistake, they owe you nothing. You didn't buy the snake from them. For all you know they sold it to Platt for 3k, so they should have no obligation to pay you anything. Although, if BG was them, he would try and help you in some way.

When you buy a used car..... you don't go to the person who owned it before the person you bought it from to complain if you have a problem do you? Nope. Platt is the one and only one you have issues with.

ps. BG is not friends with Clockwork Reptiles. He has never knowingly done bizz with them.

She is beautiful and she has size. This is a good way to go for any breeding project.

I will chalk it up as a lesson learned and take my losses. I would not ever buy anything from Josh platt again.

Don't breeders guarantee sex of the snake?
What would you do Al if you sold a snake for 5k as a female and the buyer came back to you and told you it was a male sexed incorrectly.

I have an email of the receipt from clockwork from Josh. He paid 5k 6 months ago. I wonder where the responibility lies when the animal is sexed improperly. Unfortunately, all I have this year to pair up with him is a couple of normals and a pastel. 2010 hets anyone ;)

I know Ryan from clockwork. This goes deeper than him. He is a broker. Does not breed this caliber of animals. If I were to guess it might have come from Pro Exotics.

Re: my new addition to my family!!! A lavender
I guess the lesson is, especially on HIGH end animals, sex them immediatly when they arrive. Better yet, when you really only want a certain sex, like you only wanted a female Lav., have the seller triple check the sex and give you a lifetime guarantee on the sex of the animal.

It all comes down to money. Did Josh sex the snake ever, or just take the word of Clockwork? A 30 day guarantee is cool for the health of the animal, but not for the sex of the animal. The health of an animal can change drastically based on the new owner's expertise and the animals new caging. For this reason, the 30 day guarantee is cool, but, the sex ain't going to change! A 30 day guarantee for the sex of the animal is not cool unless you were specifically told to get it sexed to check it out and had xx days to get it done.

Josh should get some compensation from whoever he bought it from if he purchased her as a her. That compensation should then flow to you.

Re: my new addition to my family!!! A lavender
    One more thing:

Brokers-not bad people, but you have to understand how they do business, AND that reptiles are a business to them. A broker is going to spend their own money to buy a snake at a lower than retail price, and in turn, resell it to make a profit. In today's market and economy, that is a tricky and dangerous proposition. A snake could be worth $1000 today, and $250 tomorrow. Let's just say the broker bought the snake for $450 to sell it for $900. If the value has dropped, they are going to take a loss or hold onto it. A broker cannot take many losses or they are out of business. So, if the seller of the Lav is a broker and made a small amount of money on the sale, or broke even, there is no money left to make your situation right, without taking a big hit. Who would the broker rather take the hit, them or you?

That is one huge reason I prefer buying from a breeder. Sure, as a breeder you paid for the adults, caging, and food, but you did not just recently shell out big bucks to buy a snake to resell it. Your breeder animals were probably paid off long ago, your caging was probably paid off long ago, and rats are just the price of keeping your snakes. A breeder would probably have taken better care of the situation, in my opinion.

You know not to be a doo doo head but you do have rights on this. You can report them to the BBB. Plus what state they are in you can call the Atourney general of that state and wadge a complaint. There is ways to do this. Not to mentioned to check the laws in your state and maybe a lawyer to send a letter may be all it takes for gross mirepresentation of a product (ie. Ball Python).

I mean no harm in this post but if you do feel very strongly and you never signed any agreement then you have full right to move forward in this.

I guess it all depends how strongly you feel and how much of a loss your willing to take on top of how much time and energy your willing to spend to force him to make things right.

When its all said and done. Really that is a hot looking snake its very crappy this has happend to you. I would be sooooooooooo PO'ed:taz:
I would take it as a learning lesson.. Heck I think I will start double checking now you have had this problem.

    Again sorry

Re: my new addition to my family!!! A lavender
Thanks for all of your responses. I decided on keeping the "male"

I now have 1 adult lavender, and 0.1 visual lavs and 1.9 het lavs in my group now from various bloodlines such as VPI, RDR, and TSK.

I also have a pair of het lav x pied (dreamsicle) hets from 09.

I decided to keep the male because he is what everyone thinks a true lavender should look like. Hopefully I will have little carbon copies of the male in my pic for others to enjoy.
