Re: Keeping the smell down!
I go through lots of Aspen. I have dozens of snakes and hundreds of African soft furred rats in my basement and you cant smell them. I clean everything weekly. The aspen might be the key.
Re: Keeping the smell down!
We have 3 racks full of snakes in our snake room, they are kept on unprinted newspaper, and checked each morning/night for mess.
There is very little smell in the room at all. Their water is changed every 2-3 days.
Re: Keeping the smell down!
I would not recommend a deodorizer to cover the smell of poor husbandry.
Get rid of the urin and poop soaked substrate and use newspaper instead.
You should not be cleaning your rack "once a week" You should simply replace the newspaper when soiled, checking daily. If you do this, not only will your snake live in a clean, healthy environment, but there also won't be any stink at all noticeable outside the tubs.

I use newsprint and clean the tub when she goes to the bathroom. But I still use the deodorizer at the end. Sometimes the smell of poop doesn't go away on its own, especially when she leaves it on the Accurite cord (which is all the time :P)
