Very gorgeous!! I want one, someday... :)

Re: My New Jag!
She's pretty :D Have you noticed any of the neuro issues associated with jags?
As far as not getting tagged... are they devensive tags or strike-and-coil feeding tags? The second can be cured quickly, the first takes a bit more work and time.
Gotta love that bright yellow on jags, she'll only get brighter as she grows up too!!

Re: My New Jag!
She looks great! Congrats on the new jag. When I first got my Macklott's python, she would do the same thing as your carpet. I would take her out with a hook, then take her off the hook with my free hand to hold her, but she would eventually bite a finger and constrict my hand. I just kept at it and she eventually learned, and never bit me, or even struck at me, again. With regular handling I would imagine that your carpet will learn pretty quickly, too. She had the best feeding response of any snake I've owned. She would regularly catch and constrict the medium f/t rats in mid air as I tossed them into her enclosure, and being so active and alert, I was surprised that she became so tame so quickly. It's a good thing, too, because at 8' it would have gotten annoying really quickly. Good luck.

Re: My New Jag!
thanks guys!
she seems very comfortable around people and her strikes are not defensive at all. obviously im going to keep at it and help her get out of the constricting my hand habit. i would imagine that by hook training and regular handling she'll grow out of it pretty quick. i'd rather not have a full grown carpet constricting me every time i handled her...
she does have a great feeding response though. she barely lets me get the lid of her tub before striking at her food.

That's one of my favorite thing about carpets.. at least if my girl is typical. She has a HUGE appetite, and a very aggressive feeding response.

mine is still settling, but at this point ive fed her twice and she is the MOST polite feeder of any of my snakes. She dosen't even constrict, she just goes to the rodent, takes its head and starts munching. is that normal or is she just a quirk? I can definately tell when she's in feeding mode though, she's just not much of a hard hitter.
i only feed F/t luckily, she'd be one of those snakes who doesn't even kill her food before eating it lol.

Re: My New Jag!
Lol I liked that last sentence, all you do is just lightly tap the head with some sort of object, maybe like a toilet paper roll or something just to make the snake snap out of it. If you don't want to do that, just pick the snake up and handle it for a minute and be calm and it will realize you aren't feeding it.
But anyways, your snake is so beautiful! I love Jags, and that is one awesome blue tongue. Good luck with your new snake!:gj:
