Thanks for the comments everyone.

    First off, I'm a female :P ....Calift = Cali :)

She's not "huge" for most of you snake lovers, but compared to my '08 ball python- she's big. I didn't purchase her either (or pay anything), her owner was moving and needed to find a new home.

Switching over to rats is definitely the future plan. I'd like to get her on frozen rats every 10 days or so- but I understand it may take some time. I'm going to try some of the techniques for switching to f/t ....and then hopefully go from there.

I'll post new pictures later....and try to get some better size comparison shots.

Thanks for the input guys! :snake:

I think it was a typo, and they probably meant to say "mice = thin snake, rats = thick snake." :D

Nice snake, btw - I really like her keyhole (?) pattern! And I remember when Mona first arrived, weighing around 1600g... I'd only had hatchlings/juvies until then, and she actually scared me for a minute. :O Now that I've gotten used to her, she doesn't seem that big anymore (and she now weighs over 2000g). Congrats!

This is my daughter holding 1.1 BP's, the 1.0 Pastel is a "06" and weights 1570+ grams & the Normal is also a "06" but a 0.1 and weights 1400+ grams both are eating rats and YES their is a slight difference in protein & fat content between a mouse and a rat But the biggest difference is that a rat of the same age will put a nice lump in the snakes belly whereas the 1 mouse a week is leaving your snake HUNGRY, I had a "06" 1.0 pastel at the same time as the one in the photo who would only eat mice no matter what I tried and just before I got rid of him he was weighing 840 grams vs 1300+ grams the one in the photo was weighting. It got to the point where I started feeding him 3 mice a week and he still wasn't catching up. Here's a link to a chart with protein & fat contents and weights http://www.rodentpro.com/qpage_articles_03.asp http://

Sorry about that. I actually looked around to see if you mentioned your sex and you don't, at least that I could see.

My Ball Python is a pretty finicky eater. I finally switched her over to live because she was missing so many meals on frozen and I went mice because my only source of live rodents charges $6.50 for a rat regardless of size and $2.50 for mice. Two of the largest mice you have please, and a week later I had 14 pups to start a small colony. Now she is getting offered 2 mice and taking both about half the time. If anyone has ASFs in Northern New York, let me know, its time for me to switch.

Very nice girl! She looks great despite being a bit skinny... As others have said I'd switch her to rats asap. I feed my late '08 male pastel an adult mouse every 5-7 days.

My snake was an '07 holdout that I got a little over a year ago at 150 grams. She's now a hair over 1100 grams on empty, and I feed her anywhere from 4 to 5 adult mice (90-110 grams) every week. I'm preparing to switch her over to rats, if she'll do it. If I were you, I'd be feeding that snake a bit more. Feeding 10-15% of the snake's body weight is a good idea, regardless of whether its rats or mice.
