Sorry to hear about the ones who lost their job. I so far have been lucky I guess. I'm a Correctional Officer, so I don't see me losing my job unless I do something and get fired. They will always need correctional officers.

Man sorry to hear about it. It seems like I hear about this stuff all the time. I work for Mars in Oklahoma, and we can't get anyone to keep there job. We have like a 70% turnover rate. We,ve had 2 people quit this week(they said they were tired of working 12 hour days). Me just thinking, where else are they going to find another job. I just wish we could get some people that really want to work.

Wish you were in sc. I have no problem working 12 hours. Its better to be getting paid doing something for 12 hours then sitting on your butt at home being bored for 12 hours

I have been laid off a few times (the last was just in November of 2008). Every time it happens I fear that the world has ended. Total and complete panic!

But the funny thing is, EVERY SINGLE TIME I find a new job that ends up being much better then the last! And everything always works out just fine.

I'm so sorry! My dad lost his job back in December, so plenty of people are being laid off, as well. Still, I hope things pick up for you.

I'm sorry to hear so many people are suffering with this down economy :(

I'm self-employed, but have only gotten enough contract work since last November to pay my business insurance. Health insurance and other living expenses are coming out of our savings, since as a self-employed person I can't collect unemployment.

I think it will turn around though, so I have spent my summer fixing up my house and yard (without buying anything) and beating the bushes for opportunities. I'm hoping to capitalize on the bounceback so I'm resting up now and hoping to work 100 hour weeks when the economy turns around to build the nest egg back up.

Keep the faith everyone...just keep banging away at it and hopefully you'll score bigtime!

I never realized how bad the economy was in other places, Louisiana's economy isn't really too bad, as far as unemployment and people not finding jobs. Everybody should move down here to Louisiana.

I wonder if that has anything to do with Katrina? Many people left (the state, and their jobs) and never returned from what I understand. Also the rebuilding of southern Louisiana I would imagine creates more job opportunities.
