Re: Surprised by a vet check up / sexing
I agree 100% if you pop a snake and it pops as a male then it is a male and there is no need to probe or pop again. The females are another story all together. Some males when they get some size on them have extreme control of their hemipenes and can resist your best efforts to pop'em. That probe kit looks like it would work just fine.
Re: Surprised by a vet check up / sexing
Sexing can vary from species to species and vets are not necessarily well versed on how to sex each species unless they specialize on it. I have shown two of my vets how to pop a ball python.
The typical mistake is thinking you have a female because you didnt see a hemipene when you popped.
Once you see a hemipene there is no mistaking you have a boy.

I just had almost the same thing happen. I bought a male OG and went to sex "him" on saturday after weigh ins just for more practice and to double check of course. Well he probed female....so I popped him...and she popped female....so I probed him again, and he probed a she again. So I am now the proud owner of a female OG.
And those probes look fine. I bought mine on eBay, theyre like 16 bucks or so. These are the ones I have and they work fine for me:
