I don't breed rats, only keep them as pets.
Between the ASF's and mice, the ASF's are WAY easier. They aren't as sensitive to high temperatures (which is a concern in my area), they don't fight as much as mice and they don't have that rather pungent aroma like mice and they are a better size for an adult BP.
There are some stickies in the feeder area on how to take care of ASF's and I believe there is a 'looking for ASF' thread so you could see if anyone in your area has them.
Since your snake is still a baby, I would recommend you continue feeding it live until it is eating reguarly and then you can work on switching to f/t if that is what you prefer. I've only had one bp that I never could never get to take f/t, my other 12 took all took it first try; so don't give up hope on your little guy yet.
I don't think anyone thinks any less of you and I'm sorry about your little guy. I think I'm one of the few people on this forum who also frequents rodent forums and I get pretty aggravated at both sides sometimes, so I tend to snap. My apologies again if I came off as harsh in my first post.
