Here's Boogie. At his max he was 25 lbs. He passed away last Nov of cancer. He had already started losing weight at this point. We sure do miss him.

At the adoption fair at my Petsmart, one of the foster moms said "I love my cats to be fat", and I'm thinking, but that's not healthy for them, why would you intentionally feed them to be fat?

I had commented that Sammy (who I adopted at about a year old) was going on a diet because he was so big for his age, and I'd already dealt with diabetes in one cat (although, she wasn't an overweight cat), and I didn't want to have to do it again. She was his foster mom, and that's when she told me she liked her cats to be chunky and fat.

Surprisingly, Kiki (even at his peak of 28 pounds) is in perfect health. No Diabetes or unusual health issues. He just liked to eat a lot, but after my boyfriend got him from his aunt, he is now feeding him less and at scheduled times rather than leaving food out all day.

My cat Cyrus LOOKS fat, but it's all fur - he only weighs about 10lbs.

Then there was Simon, my mother's cat who unfortunately died of a brain tumor at age 3. :( He weighed in at a whopping 25lbs by the time he was 1!

The largest breed I think is the rag doll cats, who can easily weigh close to 20 pounds and be fit and prim. But for general english tabbies and what not, 12-15 pounds is the usual weight. Some can be smaller of course, depends on the build of the cat.

If the vet says your cat is fat, then he must be. :gj:

I have a cat that is 1/3 African Serval Cat and 2/3 Tabby ... last I weighed him, he was 31 pounds of pure muscle,
there is not an ounce of fat on him. He stands over a foot tall and is the biggest cuddlebug in the world.

    Here's my chunky kitty!

He's the big gray one (in case you couldn't tell which one is chunky...)

And this shows the size difference in him and his *older* 'brother' (they aren't from the same parents)
