My boy (Toby) did that last week, and we were totally laughing at him! I'm a mean momma, LOL. :D He killed the mouse pretty quickly, and dropped it to get into position for swallowing... then he got a little confused and tried to grab the feet first, then the stomach, and finally figured out where the head was. He looked very confused and silly, but eventually got it under control. I guess they just have "duh" moments like the rest of us, huh?
Re: and he is so very lost........
I've seen that type of behavior several times. They almost always figure it out eventually, even if "figuring it out" means figuring out how to eat the mouse backwards.
One time one of my bigger girls managed to uncoil so that she was on top of the mouse. She was big enough the mouse was totally hidden underneath her; maybe part of the tail stuck out but that was all. So she was looking around trying to find it, and could not. I think she could smell it, because she frequently rubbed her nose against the part of her body that was on top of the mouse, but she apparently couldn't figure out that she needed to move to get to it. Finally she appeared to give up and crawled away and started exploring. Not sure if that exploring was looking for the dead mouse, or just looking for another one to kill. She did eventually find it and eat it.

Mine dropped his in his water bowl. He just looked at me like, "well, are you going to help me out here." I used tongs to drag it out. They get grumpy if they think you are stealing their supper.
It took him awhile to find the head also, since the mouse had cooled of a little. Eventually he firgured it out. :)
Re: and he is so very lost........
That happens with all my snakes... I found the best thing to do, is just not interfere.. Once you know the mouse/rat is dead, leave them alone, and just come back an hour later and the rodent Magically disappears somehow....
Re: and he is so very lost........
Yeah.... thank you all for your words... now I do not feel so bad that he got lost with a mouse.... and I feed him F/T. I do not want to start him on live since he has never eaten live.
