Re: Need some serious advice
I put a polished granite tile over the probe wire, with the probe itself sticking out the end. No glue, no more probe wandering, and he has never managed to dislodge the probe yet. The tile is wide and flat, so he just crawls right over it and keeps on truckin.
Re: Need some serious advice
Just wanted to thank you all again for your help - just sorry I didn't think about asking for it sooner! :) After all, two years ago when my child left for school and left me with a snake I was terrified of - you all helped me through that!!!! Got home from work that night at about 10:30pm - immediately moved the probes outside of the tank - stayed up 'til around 3 working on the temps. Dakota settled within two days and ate two days after that. Now he just seems hungry...I'm figuring it's because he missed a couple of meals, so I'm feeding two of those breeder mice from Rodentpro every 5 days x2 weeks and I'm guessing he'll be totally back to his old self - Once I get closer to running out of stock, I'll try rats!
Re: Need some serious advice
My adult male does this too. He is 54" and weighs around 2100g at last weigh-in. Following the 10-15% prey weight I could feed him a med-lg rat weighing around 200g twice per month. Instead, I feed him 100g rat each week. He still gets the same amount of prey each month, just in smaller meals. Usually after feeding he does 2 things for 2-3 days. 1) he tends to soak his head and neck in the water bowl. He doesn't have mites so I can only assume it is because the stretching of his skin during feeding is irritating. and 2) he roams his tank like crazy. Some mornings both of his hides are moved, the water bowl moved, and the vines are disheveled. I assume this is because he's either still hungry or more probably because he can still smell the F/T scent on the substrate and is just looking for it. I feed on Sunday and usually by Wednesday he is calmed down, as it should be...
