This is the big thing for me... The cost difference is incredible. Also I swore that I read the bag up and down and all around and didn't find anywhere where they told you to add water... Not sure if the bag was changed... or If I just somehow missed it... not calling you a liar by any means.

Hatchrite Instructions... Just read through again and can't find anything about adding water.:confused:

I don't have the bag any more - and I read it directly from the bag. Bags were purchased last year, so maybe they've changed it?

Yeah, I wont be breeding anywhere near what you guys make, only one or possibly two cluthes a season, so if it works, i'm all for it :). I will definately look in to adding water though, dont want the eggs to be too dry.

Also, I just read the instructions for HatchRite using the link provided, and was just wondering how often to open egg container to allow gas excange? It says once a week, but I think I recall it being more often than that? Help?

I think that Hatchrite is really good for first time breeders who do not want to worry about messing up on mixing water and perlite/ver. together.

Other wise it just costs alot to use if you already know how to make the other stuff perfectly.

Hatchrite is great but a beat pricey here is a cheaper alternative for you where you won’t have to worry about proper mixing: Subtrateless incubation

This is what I do and what has been working for me for those past 2 seasons

You will need

6 quart tub (can be found at walmart, target etc)
Eggcrate (can be found at lowes or homedepot)
Vermiculite or perlite (can be found at your local feed store)
and water

I put 3 cups of vermiculite in a 6 quart tub, I add about 1 and a half cup of water, I mix everything up, I then place a piece of eggcrate (cut to the dimension of my 6 quart tub) on the top of the substrate, place the eggs on the eggcrate and close the lid (I do not use any glad press & seal, I just use the lead)

This is my first year doing substrateless incubation. So far I love it! I have no problems mixing vermiculite but I'm super lazy! :) I've used Hatchrite for Leo eggs with good success.
