All of the petsmarts and petcos around here are rubbish.

I've been out of state to others that were great but.. just not around here. :(

I wouldn't but thats just me. Its a shame you spent the money on it but I'd rather get rid of it than possibly have my snake get sick. I'd send some feedback on the petco website.

Here is the form to fill out on the web. Last time I did this for a bad experience at Red Lobster they sent me a $25 dollar gift card along with their apologies.

Thanks for that. I'll fill it out.

I highly doubt I will get a refund of any type though.

Don't feed if you ever feel a prey item may be rotten. Bottom line in my book.
I guess after years of dealing with the pet trade (and yes in the past I've worked at pet stores) I personally would go in, demand a manager and get my money back. I'm rarely that narly but if the situation occurred with me that is how I would handle it. You can always write to corporate, but understand that there is always a manager on, I can guarantee it.
If you have a larger collection it may be easier for you to buy online at a reputable feeder company.
I've also had issues with crickets. My Tarantula doesn't always eat them all the first day. That noise could make you insane..lol
Good luck with you and your new ball. I was also surprised to hear that he / she ate 6 times a month. I always get them skinny and underfed.

Sending feedback to petco corporate is a very good idea. And they SHOULD refund you for the spoiled rat that is not fit to be fed to your snake. Doesn't mean they will...

More importantly, it will let them know that some serious bad things are going on at this particular location, including handing out advise that is obviously BADLY misinformed and potentially deadly. I'm not sure 1 rubber band would kill a snake, but if someone made a habit of using that trick, I'm sure an intestinal blockage would occur eventually, and probably sooner rather than later. Ugh.

I think you are likely to get at least something for your trouble. Most corporations will really be generous in order to try to avoid losing a customer. One time I bought a box of something that was supposed to have 25 pieces in it. It only had 24. No big deal. I liked the product and bought it again. Again it only had 24. I was probably in a bad mood that day, because I decided to call & complain, and I ended up receiving coupons from the corporation for 2 free boxes.

Oh yeah, I've been meaning to mention, for a baby ball to eat 6x a month is not a problem. Many people feed their babies every 5 days, which would be about 6x/month.

I also meant to add that banding a live rodents mouth would (IMO) be cruel to said rodent. None the less the digestive issue. Would you want your mouth banded shut?
My other half probably wishes mine was sometimes...lol
But think about it. Not cool in my book.

I'm sure that corporate will say something like
"You bought it opened and they gave you a dollar off, you already got your 'refund' for it being opened, better luck next time."

Well if it weren't for the letter limit I would have included her bad advice but I have no idea what her name is etc..
I'm terrible with names. I'm hoping that I get a reply soon.

Thanks so much with the help everyone! I'm loving this site already. Really friendly. :)

@kc, thanks, I guess the mice that were fed might have been pretty big. She's still a pretty big girl! Very wide.
