Re: Does the color of the rodent matter?
And I have such a stupid way of killing the rats, I feel bad and all ya know? I cant euthanize them, so I put them into a 34qt tub with the lid on and smack the bed with it. Pretty much sends a rat flying across and down a 29" long tub reeeally fast. Sucks cause I buy cute rats. =/

See I can't do that. I just flick it with my finger right on the base of the neck and it kills then instantly. It was hard for me to kill them at first but now i look at it like gutting a fish. Its food for my snakes as the fish would be food for us you know.

i remember the first time i tried to feed mine a black rat, she was really hesitant, much more than usual. I think it just depends on the snake.

I just do it as hard as I can on the back of the head/neck. I originally was just trying to stun it and the first time I did it it broke its neck.

These were rat pups. I'm not sure if it will work on adult rats.

My old stun method involved beating them against the tub. Because I LIKE animals, that usually involved more hits because I was too gentle when beating them against the tub. I beat one into stunned retardation that ended up NOT being eaten and he lived in a 20 gallon for 3 more weeks until he died of probably dehydration, cause he kept kicking over the water bowl. I know theyresupposed to have bottles but what the hell do they do in the wild? Anyway yeah in that case Im gonna keep on with my method cause none of the rats I feed are small enough to kill with a flick and I dont want to get tagged by a rat.

I feel real bad to. I dont want it to have to live permently stunned like you said so either they eat it live or i kill it and freeze it and then they eat it later.
