Re: Getting into the morphs
GET ONE and RETHINK AFTER a couple months !
You don't have a reptile yet, you don't even know if you are going to like it.
Breeding is not only putting 2 snake together. It's more complicated than that.
C'mon, have you ever hold one in your hand ? Fed one or cleaned up the crap etc... ?
I have seen people lose interrest, or just not get the right info etc... and lose their snakes. Are you really ready to invest lot of money in all of this without even knowing if you are going to like this ?
Sure you gonna find some breeders ready to sell it to you. But I wouldn't. I would sell you one, and let you see if you like it, and in a few months come back to me if you still want to go that way and get you a reduced price.
I have been fallowing the reptile/snake hobby for over 10 years and I have got different species, from ball to king to lizards of different sort. And only now, I am really to start my collection and prepare for breeding and I only hope I will be able to.
You are never prepare enough.

Re: Getting into the morphs
He actually didn't say he was new to reptiles, just balls.
As far as that 3rd female, I would consider a lesser/butter/mojave. Then eventually get a male of one of the other 3 and make some combo-lucys.
If you were to get a fire female you could consider getting a fire male as well instead of the super pastel male, then you could get black-eyed lucy's and if you wanted firefly's you could just breed him to that bumblebee and get some cool combos. Pick up a normal pastel male and breed it to that pewter for some silverstreaks.

Well I think he has atleast come to the right place if he's thinking of getting into this hobby. As for never being prepared enough thats true with most of everything in life. You do what you can to prepare yourself and leard the rest as you go. I mean I dont think hes talking about buying all these snakes and just throwing them together this season and hoping for babies. He is thinking of growing them from babies and if by the time they are ready I think he will be too. Just my upinion.

Re: Getting into the morphs
Ok so you mention you want 3 to 4 Pythons right off the get go? I recommend you go buy a Rack, check RBI racks, Animal Plastics etc, then you need a Thermostat, Helix DBS-1000 or Herpstat ND would be great for you. Keep in mind you can use these thermostats with 2 to 3 Smaller racks as long as the racks are identical, the room temps are fairly stable and the Heat method is identical. For heat make sure you get heat preinstalled unless you want to do wiring, maybe some soldering, etc. Both Animal Plastics and RBI racks come with heat preinstalled, I prefer belly heat, other people prefer back heat. If your room temps are fairly warm and stable 80 degrees then Back heat may work, otherwise I would get belly heat.
Set up the rack and get your temperatures right. Read the caresheets online or here on BP.net. Once you have the rack setup, you need supplies, are you scared of handling? You may need gloves, tongs, water bowls-I use ceramic crocs. Now have you found a food source? Local pet store that sells live mice, and rats? Then your almost ready.
So you have your supplies? You have the rack setup and ready. Temps stable, bedding of choise picked out? Newspaper works, Aspen, Cypress mulch are great. Do not use Pine or Cedar, it can harm your snakes.
Ok now, shop around, Maybe go to every local store around you, and Herp shows. Find Local breeders etc. Youll be best off buying these snakes when you see them in person, remember if you get a sick snake, you need a local Herp vet and Bills get costly often 300$ or more. Before you get your snakes, learn what makes what, like www.Ballpythons.ca this website as well as many many other will help you tremedously.
Get your snakes, A male bumblebee often times will breed at less than a year old, and bred to a Normal female 1500 grams or larger you can end up with babies like
25% Bumble Bees
25% Pastels
25% Spiders
25% Normals
take these morphs and the knowledge you got from reading, and plan your future. Remember one thing, if your in this for Money and not the animals, you most likely wont be successful. If your in it for the love of the animlas and you plan right, take good care for them, you will LOOOOOOVE this hobbie. It does get costly, but its well worth it IMHO.

I have actually been keeping reptiles for going on nine years, im just new to balls. I have a couple of breeders in mind, Im just looking into the secound breeders backround. I do plan on growing them myself so I can be involved in as many aspects of there life as I can. I have loved reptiles since I first saw them when I was 8, though my parents said now then, 4 years later I had a job and my parents said you have to do research first, so great another 2 months to wait but it was well worth it. And yes there is no way to ever be ready for everything, its a proses of learning. So befor I started posting on here I had started my research 3 months ago. I wanted to now as much as possiable befor talking to vetrans of balls, so that I least would be able to understand whats being talked about. With being afraid now I went through school for enviromental feild work Iv played with stuff most people would twinge at lol. The lucky thing is my girl friend is going through for a B.S. so understanding genetics is starting to become easy cause she is a freak for the stuff.I actually sent out a few emails today to find out about some racks. I was looking for belly heat. just waiting to hear back. As for food I live one block from an exotic pet store that provides everything from live to frozen. Next thing im looking into is the heat controls. Now im still going to take another 2 to 3 months befor I decide if im actually ready or need to take more time to study. Though I dont like being judged the way you did, I do understand what you are saying, but you should ask first and shoot later

Re: Getting into the morphs
stefanivanski - Its good your here asking advice. Take some peoples advice with a grain of salt. I wish you luck with your breeding.

Re: Getting into the morphs
I take everything with a grain o salt ( even from my parents) , BUT I still take it with me in hopes it makes me a better person and better keeper

Re: Getting into the morphs
No one means any harm, I don't think- we all love snakes! :)
Sounds like you are off to a great start! We did jump in and had some losses, we learned a lot.

Re: Getting into the morphs
Everyone has their own personal preferences with morphs. Go to some shows and look at the morphs available there. Even if you don't buy anything it's a great way to get to know breeders and get valuable information. Since you're going to be getting 2 co-dom females to start off. Think of a goal, like what do you want to produce? People on this forum will seem like they're attacking you sometimes because there are always individuals who know absolutely nothing about ball pythons and want to breed them so it gets pretty annoying. For the third female I would recommend something like a pinstripe, or a pied if you want to get into recessives.

Re: Getting into the morphs
http://absolut-regius.forumdediscuss...egius-t671.htm Take a look at this page and you can get some ideas of what the various morphs look like. It is another forum that I believe someone referenced here at some point in the past.
