When i got my first snake in Nov. My male het albino. I didn't know much of what i was doing. I would feed feed feed. Well in March he stopped eating. He has lost only a few grams but will not eat. I have tried everything mice, rats, scenting the rodents with used gerbil bedding but nothing works. I'm not to worried thought because he looks healthy and acting healthy. But to get to my point I believe this problem is from over feeding. Opps :rolleye2:

Just because she can eat that much does not mean she should.

Snakes will severely over-eat. They can constantly look hungry when they are not as well. It is your job as a keeper to feed proper amounts of food per week. 4 mice being very difficult on the system of the animal. (plus, the snake should have been left alone for 48 hours after eating in the first place).

Get some proper sized rats and feed one every 7 days. Go either by the % rule or visual rule (prey should be the same thickness as the thickest point on the snakes body).

^^^ I second that, just because a snake will keep eating doesnt mean you keep feeding. If you are feeding more than 2 mice a feeding then i thnk its time to upgrade to a small rat once every week.

I've had something similar happen where after feeding an appropriately sized prey item (a rat in this case) she still zooms around her cage in the strike position looking for more. This was after a 5 month hunger strike so i gave her another smaller prey item.

But then i figured out what the problem was. I feed in the enclosure, so it wasnt that she was really hungry, it was that she SMELLED the rat. I cleaned her cage to get the rat smell out, and then she was back to normal.

im no expert. infact a complete newb. but ive heard that power feeding is bad because the body can develop quicker than bones (or vice versa) basically it can cause a load of health problems.

also, one you have gotten your snake to feed once, it is in "feeding mode", and will look for other things to eat. which is why it appears hungry. it isnt, its just its instincts taking over.

If your snake is "hungry" like that then you need to up the prey size. I feed a small/med rat to my 607g male every 7 days and he is peachy. Please take notice that you are overfeeding your pet by a ton.
