Yup, for defense. The hairs are called urticating hairs and are barbed. They get embedded into your skin and make you itch like crazy. Some people are highly sensitive to them and they break out in a bad rash looking thing. Luckily i am not that sensitive to them although they do make me itchy. I just make sure they don't get in my eyes and that I don't breath them in. The versicolor at the top shoots poo as a defense which is kinda funny and gross at the same time.

Wow, I definitely did not know that. I bet they are very neat to look at. Thanks again! Maybe some day I will conquer my fear of spiders and get one. It is a silly fear. Spiders are our our friends, especially here in mosquito and roach land. Oh yeah- don't some huge ones eat birds in the wild? Or even small fish and frogs and such?
Re: Versi, curly and chaco pics duw...
A T blondi (golith bird eater) is big enough to eat a bird. Most adult tarantula's can eat mice, frogs and such (I only feed mine multiple crickets). They do not eat fish though that I know of. The only swimming tarantula I can think of off the top of my head is the T gigas (I think that is it)?
Re: Versi, curly and chaco pics duw...
yes the gigas is the only swimmer.
the bites are not poisonous though, but VENOMOUS.
go figure... lol;)
and are you sure thats a versicolor?
looks to me like an
Avicularia Avicularia...
nice T's man. cant wait for my chaco to hit 8 inches lol

You are correct they are venomous and not poisonous. Thank you for the correction and sorry for any confusion. I don't know why I wrote that...
100% positive it is a versicolor. I have had her since she was a little blue fuzzball. I also have an A. avic so I know the difference between the two. The versi is still small. The jug that she is in is a 1/2 gallon jug. She still has a ton of growing and coloring to do yet. You did catch me in a mix up of poisonous/venomous but I didn't mix up what she is ;) Thanks...

I can't think of any insects that creep me out :gj: My wife gets creeped out by centipedes and roaches (that I can think of off the top of my head) but I like both of them. Out of respect for her I don't have either though...
Re: Versi, curly and chaco pics duw...
Man, I hate centipedes. I get the furry ones ( not the black and red ones) in my apartment all the time.
