I am always a little nervous about soaking because many people have accidentally drowned their snakes this way. The pillowcase is much safer and the snake stays much calmer. And yes, use room temperature (tepid) water. It shouldn't feel hot or cold to the touch.
I made the temp around 82 degrees when I soaked him yesterday.
