Re: Burmese or Retic
I have always liked the way retics look but for some reason I am partial to burms. So my choice would be burm :gj:

Re: Burmese or Retic
Are the bp's and boa the extent of your herp experience to date? How long have you kept them?
We keep Burms & more than a few retics, and I think you should apprentice with someone who keeps both species, but especially if you are considering a retic. I do not consider Burms & retics to be on the same "playing field" in terms of giant snakes...retics tend to be much more alert, smarter, more reactive & require a more sensitive & experienced keeper.
Please, please try to see if you can find a mentor who has big snakes that you can work with hands-on & gain some experience with both Burms & retics. This may help you determine whether or not you are ready to commit to a giant, much less which species. Both species require a fair share of time, husbandry effort & $$$ to properly care for, feed & house. Do not acquire a giant on a whim, please. Do a LOT of research into their proper care. They are not like "taking care of a ball python, but bigger," as I've heard some folks describe it.
I like Burms. I love retics. And I wholeheartedly encourage you to look into some of the other smaller, yet equally rewarding "medium" python species as alternatives. Giant snakes are a big commitment...please make sure you're ready for it before taking the plunge. :)

Re: Burmese or Retic
I totally agree with what KLG said :)
However, I still feel it's the thread starter's choice if he wants one. All I simply ask is that he thoroughly does his homework ;)
THanks
