Re: How often do you change substrate?
Change the paper each time there is a mess, and substrate on cool side if they dirty....otherwise every week or so with the substrate....
Re: How often do you change substrate?
I use aspen and spot clean as necessary and fully change about once a month. Sometimes sooner if they make an extra mess or take a extra big poo, sometimes less if there's only urates and they're saving up that big poo.
Re: How often do you change substrate?
I have a BP, Zeke, who is shedding right now. His shed isn't going too well b/c of the humidity. I heard that Cypres Mulch is good, but has to be the pure form. Are there any other substrates that help with humidity?
Re: How often do you change substrate?
When I was using cypress, I'd only do a full change out every few months on average. Spot clean it when needed, add some fresh cypress to replace that which you removed, mix it up weekly so it stays aerated and you don't end up with any fungus growing underneath everything. I know others that use cypress who only do a full change out twice a year. It can go a long way if you stay on top of keeping it clean.
Re: How often do you change substrate?
I use the infamous reptile carpet. I change it when soiled and/or once a week. The used ones go in the washing machine with soap and bleach. I also disinfect my enclosures weekly with a bleach solution and water bowls are changed out for clean ones daily. I keep extras of everything so that enclosure cleaning is very quick and I can disinfect the stuff when it is convenient for me.
