1. Would I only need a UTH, ceramic heat emitter, and a UVB fluorescent?
2. At night would I still have to keep any of the lights on or switch bulb to red/blue?
-Thanks
1. No UTH for beardies. Best bet is a MVP type bulb that offers UVB and heat in the same bulb. Mega-Ray 100SB is a great bulb for that.
2. As long as your temps don't dip much below 65, no need for a CHE at night. But if you need a little night heat to keep it in the 65-75 range, then a low wattage CHE is OK (no red or other bulbs). Avoid UTHs for beardies.
I have both Leos and Beardies. Leos are much easier and less expensive to feed and keep warm. You DON'T need any special lights for a leo. I have a red bulb I had no use for. So I use that as the basking spot bulb for my leos during the day. Then I have a UTH that I use to keep the Leos ambient temps and warm side temps good 24X7. I use some loose slate tiles on top of an inch of sand. The UTH sits under the tank and there are no worries of hot spots and burning the lizards. I have 2 adults in a 20gal. A single adult beardie will need a MIN of 40gal BREEDER tank.
Leos eat the same insects you'd feed a beardie. But with a Beardie, you also need to provide healthy greens (NOT lettuce). Beardies also need soaking, will brumate, and go threw all kinds of changes and attitudes just to keep you on your toes.
I love my beardie, but I love my leos just as much and they are way easier.

Okay, I'd probably go with leo then if I can't get the snake. Sounds like a beardie isn't really for beginners from what people are saying now. Thanks so much guys!

***UPDATE***
I asked my mom about the snake and at first she said no b/c she thought it was going to grow to be like 10ft. I explained that it wouldn't grow more than 5 ft and she agreed. Thanks for all your help, I'll definately still use that info for later on down the road. I think my bro wants to get some leapard gecko's so I'll show this to him.
Thanks everyone!
