Ha. This reminds me of the scientist at the HR 669 hearing. "The reason for the bill is because of snails and mosquitoes." We all know how much they are imported. Come on dude, tell me what you really think.

The one on the left is either a full grown adult next to a juvenile, or a gorged adult next to a regular adult.

I am leaning towards the latter option.

great pictures, better than the ones in "reptile parasites" book.

it's my understanding the mites are black until they gorge on blood.have fun!

Well, from the drawing at VPI's site, it sure looks like a female engorged mite. And, apparently females only drink blood after they've mated!

Ugh nasty little things. I had to deal with them when I got my first ball python and I swore I would never do it again. I am absolutely psychotic about screening for them, cleaning up after a show or a pet store and QT now.
Interesting pictures though, it's kind of like finally getting to see what your mortal enemy really looks like.

Thank you for posting. PAMite is definately top-notch; it knocked out our mite problem here awhile ago.
I liked looking at your photo. Mites are nasty things for us snakekeepers, but part of me is still fascinated by seeing them so close-up and big.
