Getting all technical on the terminology are we now? :colbert:

Lol yeah, I don't think what it is called really matters. If you can buy it in a store then that is great! But if you can also do it yourself and put a hole in a ceramic pot, that is great too.

    Thanks guys.

By "permanent" I meant until she poos all over it (which she always manages to do) haha. I assumed that I'd have another cereal box ready by then so I could just do a quick switcharoo.

But right now the general census is a no? Mainly for it not being snug? (which was my worry in the first place)

Also any tips for getting the stink off "clay pot" hides? The log hides don't smell anymore but I can't get the ceramic one stench free. It doesn't seem like an absorbent material but I can't get the thing clean for the life of me.

    Thanks,
    Dennis

Oh and the problem with the "clay pot" is that I only have one of them. I've always read that you're supposed to offer identical hides.

But here's the problem with that...the log hides I have aren't identical and my snake seems to prefer one over the other. For the past 2 week she's been in the hot side one. The second I switched the hotside hide over to the cool side she started chillin on the cool side. Then when I switched them back she went back to the hot one. So I thought I'd give the ceramic one a try but she didn't use it either (mind you she only have a couple hours with it) but now it smells like snake poo. THoughts?

Cheap and easy is a plastic bowl with a hole in it. Gladware or something liek that.

Big questions are, will he use it and does he still eat. If he does both it is ok. When it gets soiled thow it away and replace it with apple jacks!! To answer your question...ultimately you want a good snug hide, but all balls are different, do what works for yours.

Thanks. I'm gonna try it out for a bit while I search for cheap ceramic bowls to use. I was never a big fan of the log hides (if only someone told me they were so bad before I got my snake) so we'll see how this works out.

Here are my guidelines if I may:

No sticky stuff- AKA no tape and stuff

No staples- if staples must be used cover them with hot glue ( make sure its dry)

and if using cardboard- make a new hide EVERY time your snake uses the bathroom or it gets wet. Mold is BAD and hides like these become unsanitary rather quickly. Other than that I see no problem. Its cute ^_^. If your snake doesn't take to it I would suggest making it a bit more "custom" such as lowering the ceiling and making it a big more snug. They love snug places. Hope this helps!
