    Home Depot can special order black melamine and cut it to size for you. I don't have a saw in my condo that can make perfect cuts through 2 feet of melamine so they make all my cuts. You can also use pine or birch and paint it any color you want, then seal the tops of each shelf with 2 mil laminate, but just about any other material will make it too expensive.

    Do they make melamine any thinner than 3/4"? That really seems like overkill to me.
