We were planning on keeping one of the little girls (We ended up with 3 girls & 3 boys), but the one I wanted to hold on to passed away last night (she was the runt).

Momma kitty pushed her away a bunch of times and I was keeping a close eye on her. She was sooo much smaller than the others and skinny. I went out yesterday and got emergency kitty formula and attempted to bottle feed, but she was just too weak.

Nature is cruel.

I wish there was more I could have done for the lil' calico girl, I don't think she would have survived even if I had rushed her to the vet. So is life, I guess.

Thanks! He is the chubbiest one out of the group ;), and he is the one my kids now want to keep.

Could have been a lot more to it than you know - deformed or underdeveloped organs that caused her to be smaller in the first place - just the way things work and its interesting how the mother seemed to sense it.

Very true... Guess I never thought too deeply into it. I was quite surprised that momma cat kept pushing her out of the group, and she seemed very irritated that I kept putting the little one back (she was so cold). Poor thing just didn't seem to have the motivation to want to push her way in to get food or warmth. It sure does seem as though momma cat knew what was to come. I had a harder time accepting it than she did, thats for sure.

On the happier side of things, the remaining five kittens are doing great! All are nice & plump and noticeably larger ;)
