I am not trying to hijack this thread by any means, but I didn't think that I should create a new thread when this one is still running.

I have four vision cages that are stacked on a wooden table. The cage that is on the bottom I have placed on a wooden standish-like thing to give it some clearance so the UTH can breath a bit. My issue is this, the bottom cage is reading at 104.4*F on the acurite probe (I also got readings of 97* when using the instant and alternate digital thermometer) while the others are reading at 93.1*F on the hot side. I have checked with an instant thermometer, the acurite thermometers and an additional digital thermometer. All of them show me that the bottom cage's UTH is running hotter. All of the UTH are the same. Also, I used foil tape to secure them fully to the bottom of the cages.

I have them all hooked up to my Ranco ETC 111000 pre-wired, which I have set for 93*F with a DIF of 1*F. I have the thermomstat itself plugged into a surge protector which is then plugged into the wall.. is it possible that that is causing the spikes on the one UTH?

I'm thinking that the accurite is the problem. I'll be replacing it soon. :(

I'm no expert at the matters you mention - that of stacking vision cages - but I have found that weird things happen when you don't plug the thermostat directly into the wall. Try a new acurite first, since they can go funny from time to time, but if it's still messed up on the bottom, plug the stat directly to the wall and try putting more space between the bottom cage and 'table' as well as between the bottom cage and one above it. Yes, heat rises...but if there's close heat above that will affect the temps.

I had an RBI cage setup for a little while, and while I was testing it out I had the 20g long tank of the snake I wanted to move in on top of it so the thermostats could be 'shared'. I learned fast that having that extra source of heat above the PVC cage caused the temps inside it to soar! :)

Thanks for that. Im goin to just go ahead and plug it into the wall, I had thought that could be an issue when originally doing it but didn't see anywhere in the manual that it came with whether it was good or bad. I'll try that first and hopefully in the next few hours I'll know if I need to make that trip.
