Hi,
I merged your two threads as they were exactly the same and it keeps the forum tidier.

If you want a nice animal plastic enclosure that will cost you around 400 or so bucks. Substrate and mice do have a cost over time and he said he didn't have cash to throw around. I was just making sure he is aware of the costs. Plus add in a good thermostat and you have another 200 dollars. Add shipping and also hides, water bowl, temp-gun, humidity/temperature gauge and you will reach around 700.

$400? You must have bought a huge enclosure from them. Half that and you can get a rack to house several snakes. $140 for a helix, hides $10, bowl $3.
That 700 I'm sure would look quite discouraging to someone just looking to buy his first snake, considering the majority of that is unnecessary expenses, or at least at such costs.

Re: Blue Eyed Lucy BP
Wasn't meant to discourage I just wanted to make sure the OP understood that snakes cost a lot at the beginning. No it's Matt's enclosure and it cost a bunch and was not a huge cage.

Personally I think getting a ~$2000 BP as your first one isn't a great idea. As a beginner you are likely to make mistakes. I sure did. I'm not saying that the life and health of a normal is less valuable than an expensive morph, but in the unforseen event that the animal gets sick, injured, or dies at least you won't be out a bunch of money.
It sounds callous to put it this way, but that is how I saw things when buying my first BP. There were some pretty and expensive morphs I liked better, but I wasn't about to spend all that money without making sure I was capable of keeping a normal happy and healthy for at least a year. That year is almost up, the normal is doing great, and now I have confidence that if I buy an expensive morph I know how to take care of it.
