Any heating item can malfunction, even if it's made specifically for reptile use. The two options you're probably talking about, heat cable or flexwatt, are both in use in many keepers' homes out there with no problem. As long as you use a good thermostat and have the probe properly placed you should have no issues.

I have an AP rack system with cable and it does great for me.

I have a couple of cages that are by another maker but for all intents and purposes are the same. I use radiant heat panels in them. Radiant heat panels cost more to buy and to operate, but the wall thickness of this type of cage makes it tougher to use flex watt and with a radiant heat panel there is no concern about ambient room temperature in a cold room. On the other hand you want to make sure that you are using a quality thermostat so that a failed thermostat won't turn the cage into an oven.

I personally do not like the belly cable it heats higer and lower at different ends of the rope. I use flexwatt and rhp and it seems to work much better!

I'm going to end up getting a t8 and use a devider with herpstat2 and rhp. That way I can have two bps in one tank to save money and have a nice set up for my bps.
