help keeping up humidity.help please!!!!!!!!!

Hi,

Are those temps inside his hot and cool side hides?

If possible the cool end should be a bit lower (around 80-83 ) inside his hide just to give him as much of a good temp gradient as you can.

I think I can see the probe from a digital thermometer in there so I take it that is what you are using?

48% isn't that far off for normal humidity - I imagine getting it up to 60%-70% for shedding drives you nuts though.

Have you tried a second waterbowl? The greater the surface area the better - depth really doesn't matter at all in raising humidity.

Are you only using the lights for heating? If so, that is where all of your humidity is going. I would invest in a UTH or some flexwatt and if you need supplemental heating, use a low wattage bulb.

yes i am using a dig. thermometer (accurite) and yes he is in mid shed right now and its making me crazy. and i dont like to put him in the tub to compensate for low humidity because he always craps all over me after i get him out :) and the cool side hide temp is 77ish during day and 80ish at night( difference due to light placement) and warm side temp is 89ish during day and 85ish at night( again difference due to light placement)

i have a uth on the left where the day light is (under warm side hide) and yes i am using the lights for heat. So should i just get heat pads to line the whole bottom of tank then just use my dimmer to lower the heat till the temp is right? and will the temp get to proper levels with better and/or more uth with lower dimed lights

Ok,

I'd try and get one light (that can be left on permanently) to get the cool side at 80-82 and the hot hide at 90-93 24/7.

It's always better to get the temps right where he is hiding happily rather than in an area he may be reluctant to use - possibly a UTH would be a good way to fine tune it if you can attatch that to your thermostat as well ( through a dimmer works quite well ).

Eliminating one of the lamps would at least let you halve the gap in the tinfoil top which should help.

Most people who use both use the lamp to keep the cool end and ambients up and have the UTH under the hot side hide to make sure he can get the temps he needs for digestion etc.

Well I'm on a different continent so am not really sure what you will have to choose from. :oops:

I used sphagnum moss in a tupperware container for my humid hides.

Don't be put off if the moss looks dry and dead though - it generally re-hydrates fine.

yea we have sphagnum moss. and just spray it heavily once a day right
