How trustworthy are the thermostat temps?

My problem was my temps were to low. I had my stat at 95 and ambient was mid/upper 70's and tub temp hi was like 86 or so. I'm sure you'll get it figured out it just might take some tinkering. Good Luck!

Try putting the probe on the bottom of the tub inside and let the temps adjust for about one hour and rechecking.

the thermostat probe? I have always read to stick it on the outside, but I will give it a shot.

Your aim with the thermostat is to control the temperature the snake experiences inside the tub. The probe can't help the stat do this if it isn't measuring the temp inside the tub. I just tape it under the hide and substrate with a little piece of clear packing tape to hold it in place.

Although I keep my probes inside the cages (hard to get rights temps by putting them outside the cage with an RHP and fluctuating house temps), I hot glue them to the cage.

I used to tape them, but I don't trust it at all. Partly thanks to dr del (hear that, Derek, I took your advice :gj:), but I'm really pleased with the result. Unmovable.

For me the "unmovable" part is a huge drawback! I am a bit anal retentive about cleanliness so I clean the tubs once every two weeks. Taking them out and scrubbing them in a different room would mean having to move the entire setup if my stat probe was permanently stuck to the bottom of the tub.

Alright, I hear yer problem. Unless you have a herpstat, it'd be quite a major hassle (the herpstats have probes that you can unplug).

What would putting the thermostat probe in one of the tubs help with though if I am measuring temps with other devices (not the thermostat). I can adjust the t-stat to whatever I want and it most likely won't match up with what my setpoint is.

My problem is, I am measuring temps with a temp gun and I get 100*+ and then I measure with a probe thermometer and I get 85*. I shoot the temps right next to the probe. I don't think moving the probe for the t-stat will make any difference, I will just have to change my setpoint all around.

if that probe is put inside the tub and not secured it can be pushed away from the bottom of the tub and in turn raise the temps and possibally cause a burn! also if its taped and the tape comes lose you it can tear the snakes skin and still cause a burn on top of it!
it should be taped to the flexawatt and it should be adjusted to where the inside temps are where you want them no matter what the temp at the probe is.
