you could try to partly cover the warm side or the tub(make it mroe rack-like). you could adjust your flexwatt to heat a little more of the tub. you could add a piece of flexwatt the cold side with a dimmer or another thermostat.
personally i would just try to cover 3 sides and the top of the tub with something.

I've got 3 sides and the top covered now, seems to help... If my tub is 26"x18" what size flex watt do you recommend for the cool side?

i use a heat pad for people! its about 15 bucks, you can pick your size, and and it has a built in hi-med-low.
careful which one you buy though, some have a built in shut-off, 2 hours or so...

Those are very dangerous to use with snakes. They are not meant for snakes.
Get some 3" or 4" flexwatt, you should only need 1' of it for one tub.

because human heats pads get up to 180*F. Even if you were to control it or "watch it" something could still happen. Use a product that is for reptiles. Period.

let your temps settle with a back and see if that dont solve your problem if not then just bring the post back up

it help but it doesn't help enough, i think im going to get some heat tape (cant get it till i get some money), but in the meantime will my snake be ok?

I am having the same issues with my new snake in the tub. I have her in a 16 quart tub with an UTH under her hot side and that is being held at 94.3. My cool side is at 71 degrees.
If I were to insulate 3 sides what would I use to insulate it? I have the heavy duty foil on the bottom with foil tape. Whats good for the sides? Also I drilled some holes for air circulation, they are pretty small and I did some on the sides and a couple up top. Is that sufficient?
