    This may sound funny, but I wouldn't lose the hammock just yet. Balls are very arboreal if given the opportunity. Your little one may just enjoy the "lounge" once he knows it's there. Also, you want to avoid hides with closed bottoms......it would not be fun trying to get a ball python stuck from an enclosed cave. lol. Cork bark works great. Cardboard works great. They just want to get under something. The tighter the better.
