    this may be a pointless question that has been answered already, but if the wound seems closed, is it necessary to put him on paper towel substrate? and I plan on taking him to the vet tomorrow (monday 17th) or the next day (teusday 18th)

    I would do it anyway just to make sure nothing else gets in there. You can never be to careful!

    Inspect cage furniture and definitely put on paper towel. As pointed out previously, this looks like a puncture wound. If it didn't occur during handling, which you likely would have noticed a suddenly freaked out snake on your hands, then it likely happened in the tank. If it wasn't from the furniture in the cage, it is something in the substrate. Remove the danger of further injury.
