    Ok just so we are clear on definitions

    rheostat is another word for a potentiometer. Its basically a knob you turn to increase resistance. When you wire it in line with something that requires electricity it reduces the watts used by the device. A light bulb gets dimmer (dimmer switch) and a heater gets...well less hot.

    thermostat is a device that regulates temperature.

    Big difference but both can be used to keep your snake from getting burned.

    this is an actual thermostat im gonna use them for daytime and the use rheostat for night

    Umm a thermostat with night drop features comes to mind unless you are working with a budget. :)

    Probe placement takes a few tries until you reach the efficiency level you are looking for. When you find it, use foil tape to secure it. Hope it helps.

    Hi,

    Why not use red/ moonlight/ ceramic bulbs and use those 24/7?

    You really don't need a night time drop in temps unless you are trying to get them breeding (and possibly not even then ).

    yeah im working with a budget now if they had herpstat's on amazon.com i would buy one but they dont =(

    Why does it need to be from Amazon? You could go with a cheaper thermostat like a ranco or a johnson controls.

    never thought of that but i do like the look of my room being lit up in red is comforting
