I picked up a few rats from a friend to start and I had no idea what they were. But most so far are most are of the mink varieties. I got a couple champagne hoodeds and a few light grey hooded (lilacs). Also some mink berkshires....

    They are soo cute....

I may add some dumbos next time I add new blood....

Really, your best bet is to get from a feeder breeder that knows the health of each color they are carrying. Like Morphie knows that her fawns don't birth well, but her blues are fine.

Things like that will go far into improving your colony, not filling it with crap rats.

Regardless, make sure you QT new rats. You don't want to bring some home only to have it infected with many of the diseases rats have, and wipe out most or all of your colony very quickly.

BTW, there are no lucy rats, it's called a black eyed white, and it is a very high white rat. High whites are a very high risk for megacolon. Google it. :gj:

    Okies,
I'll continue my search with your advice at hand. :)

As of now there are no more pet stores in my area that sells feeder rats, or pet rats anymore. There was one pet store that actually sold good healthy rats (Shocker there right.) but Petco moved in and kicked them out.

Mhm, I always QT new animals.

Oh, I knew that. :D :D :D *Goes to Google*

    Thanks again yall!!

We have a dumbo rex hooded , a naked though I think she's really a double rex as she does have some fur, rex hooded,We have a little boy who's a blue hooded( really nice color),chocolate and a light gray hooded. We took the high white male out of our breeding because of genetic issues and he was really nippy.
