Escape

I keep weights on top of the enclosure. No escapes yet, though attempts are frequent.

My son's corn snake escaped. At the time, my other son had pet mice (you know where this is headed) in a huge habitrail set-up with wheels and many many miles of tubes of trails and places for them to go. It was space themed and included a circular space restaurant where you put treats for the mice.

Well, sure enough, about a week later, we find the snake with three large lumps wrapped inside the circular space restaurant (of all places). The funny part was that the remaining mice were busy stuffing the tube trail with bedding so he couldn't get back down to get them. It was hysterical (for me, not my son that lost three pet mice.)

Recently, my tiny carpet escaped. I just transferred him into an exo-terra or something like that and didn't realize how junky the clips were and one snapped and he squeezed out. I was distraught. I love that snake. I found him chilling on my dh's large tropical plant, he looked so natural and comfortable there, like he really belonged there, it was a shame to have to take him off. When he gets a little bigger and I can keep track of him better, I have a feeling it will become his spot.

Lmao, That's really funny kinda feel bad for your son but nonetheless vary funny story, and also a vary good example on why people should allways make sure thay they lock there snakes up right after they handle them

I have 14 ball pythons and i have only ever had one escape, before i built the custom snake room in the garage i had 5 in my room my gf at the time took one of the yearlings out . . . she handled it for about 30 mins put it back(didnt properly close the latch) we went to bed i woke up in the morning checked on the snakes like i always do and noticed an open lid with no snake, i ripped apart my room lookin for it moving cabinets tossin mattresses movin everything out of the room after properly lookin trough it and then . . . . .the little bugger was sittin at the bottom of my empty laundry hamper curled in a little ball!!! every since then i have been super careful and if anyone wants to see one of my snakes i take them out and but them back so i know they arn't goin to escape . . .

however I agree that if you have more than a few escapes that your not properly taking care of your snake. Everyone knows that snakes are great escape artists and there are tons of lids and enclosure tops you can get to avoid this problem . . . if you cant care for ur pet them dont own ur pet!!!

I haven't had this happen to me yet. I only have one 6ft boa which never even tries to get out at all. I recently acquired a baby bp and I have her in a 12qt tub which snaps shut which I make sure that I hear both snaps before walking away. I'm sure that accidents happen and of course there are some snakes that just seem prone to be escape artists.

Ive been keeping snakes for many years and have never had one get out. I make sure thier cages are secure.

One escape with my BP, happened just last week, and found him 3 rooms away, I was at work all day, basking in the light of my kitchen window garden hanging in my 400 yo banzai.

I have special lamps and glass in that window plus a humidifier to keep the banzai in a perfect self sustaining atmosphere

Will never be able to figure out how he did it

The only perimiter breeches I've had is in my big tanks with dividers sectioning it off for 2 bps. I have a couple that manage to scale the wall and go cuddle with their neighbor. No actual escape though.

My 2 snakes are crazy escape artists. It almost seems like they've been working together to escape. A few days ago they pushed a lid off--It was duct tapped down on 2 sides and had 3 textbooks on top of it.

I was just plain amazed. Thats why I'm thinking about getting a cage with sliding doors.

Knock wood - four years keeping ball pythons and ~40 ball pythons and one tiny king snake - no escapes.
