Re: measuring shed? is it accurate?
Here is a link to the snake measurer software article on this site. I have heard people say it works well, however when I downloaded it, I couldn't get it to work. It wasn't that it was inaccurate; it just didn't work at all, so it is entirely possible it was a user error issue.

One of the best suggestions I've heard is to get a board or other long straight object, and get your snake crawl in a narrow space between the board and a wall, so it will have to stretch out fully. Quickly mark where the nose & tail tip are, then measure the distance between your marks. You could even make a ruler on the board, and save it for repeat use.

As far as using sheds, I think they are reasonable representations of how much growth a snake has had if you compare one shed to the next one. It is kind of cool to collect several sheds and stretch them out side by side to see the growth. However, as far as measuring the actual size of a snake, they are not at all accurate.

Or, put your snake down on the floor by a wall, at watch them crawl along completely stretched out. Make a mark, then measure later.
