Question about the acurites

Hi,

Well the acurite measures the humidity at the base unit not the probe so that may account for that discrepancy?

I would place the acurite probe as close to the flukers unit as possible to see if that makes the readings any closer.

It is no biggie if they read differently as long as they do it by consistent amounts and you can "compensate" in your head.

You do get thermometers that read both humidity and temp at the end of a probe but I can't seem to find the links I had - they were a little more expensive than the acurites iirc.

Thank you, Haven't done this but does make sense. I had a feeling I needed to place the entire system in the tank due to it's inacuracy. But will try this out and see. Thanks again

Thats not true at all some accurites measure humidity at the base only 1 or 2 models if I remember correctly. Some DO have humidity probes and others have wireless sensors that can measure humidity and temps.

The Flukers is measuring the temp of the air rising above the floor over the hot spot. The probe is measuring the temp of the wall above the edge of the floor. Stick the probe on the floor next to the other unit and see if that's any closer. The probe should read hotter.

None of the thermometers are perfectly accurate. You are going to get accuracy within a few degrees which is more than enough for our purposes as reptile keepers. If you want perfect accuracy you'll need a professional temp gun which run upwards of a few hundred bucks. I barely use temps guns or thermometers. I rely on a quality proportional thermostat to regulate my temps and I spot check every once in a while. Hope this helps!
